can you tell us why you like the dynamics of deaddoor/bloodvessel/driftdoor/batcase/crimetime? maybe some your fav headcanons or something else interesting
oh god. hello and welcome to my home ive been meaning to get into this. i made visuals! theres a lot behind like... how ive been approaching these ships + characters so im trying my damn best to summarize. walk with me here. more under cut.
BLOODVESSEL
my favorite thing about this dynamic is the fact that they are practically dancing on the line between pissing each other off and killing each other. i like the idea that drifter thrives off the fact that if mirage wanted to-- he can kill him and WOULD kill him. its entirely what draws him towards mirage, some fucked up self destruction taunting the man that wouldn't hesitate to put you down. he wants to see mirage at his lowest, he wants to see him full of rage and a desire to kill even if he's looking down the barrel.
mirage, on the other side of things, is so done with this vampire. he's worse than a feral dog following you around to nip at your heels, an annoying bark to him and all. genuinely doesn't care to figure drifter out until there's glimpses of who drifter was before the monster everyone whispers about-- then he's curious. wants to explore more about the man, see how he works. see what he was.
that's more terrifying than death, to drifter. he still finds himself at mirage's heels despite it all.
(also there's this fun idea that were it a different time before drifter's vampirism, if mirage was around-- he'd be the kinda man drifter would court. and mirage wouldn't have minded that.)
DRIFTDOOR
i know it's everywhere but listen. driftdoor with a history that stays in that past, only revisited like a rebound or getting back with your ex. they had a relationship, if you could even call it that. they were close. and then they went different ways. one grew bitter, the other grew fonder.
there's this idea i like that for doorman's first attempts at walking amongst man-- drifter was there. their paths kept crossing, and eventually intertwined as they began traveling the us wrecking havoc on man. and then one day during it all, doorman grew bored. and left. drifter still clings onto that violent past and thinks doorman's a fool to leave him it behind.
doorman still regards drifter fondly, thinking no time has really passed-- while drifter looks at his new form and life bitterly. whether or not there is/was actual love between the two is... difficult?
doorman is a being that is just learning so much about humans, labeling emotions is something he never thought to learn. and drifter-- an ancient vampire constantly on the move. this guy has commitment issues in MY mind.
(also, i have this fun idea that doorman's red hair is from a comment drifter made about a past vessel. red suits you. hence, the red hair, and the nickname red.)
DEADDOOR
oh god oh fuck
i'll admit. i did not really fuck with deaddoor until my friend and i started writing them interacting and the thread did a complete 180. this dynamic makes me INSANE.
the ships rooted in the fact that neither of them are mortals, and the fact that they're both unique. there's no other fledgling god playing mortal, there's no other mound of corpses learning who he is-- they're both unique and alone in their experiences, and find each other. in a way.
will say it starts with doorman trying to piss victor off. but any attempts at getting under his skin are brushed off and honestly just cause victor to grow suspicious about what doorman is. and once doorman gives in and reveals that he's not human, there's a small bit of hope for victor. i don't have to be alone.
victor seeks companionship from doorman, while doorman seeks the human experience. pain, suffering, anger, abandonment-- all a delicacy to indulge in for doorman. but with victor's gentle nature and tender touches doorman finds himself overwhelmed with different feelings. not the ones he signed up for, warmth and fondness make any prayer from victor feel like the pleas of thousands.
can they be healthy? yeah. is it fun if they're both so painfully reliant on eachother? yeah <3
i can go into more and more oh my GOD i love deaddoor. platonic or not who CARES!!! what if you were gods favorite miserable man.
BATCASE
thanks for waiting, its yuri time.
i love the idea of batcase's dynamic starting young. the arranged marriage being set up when they were both early teens, so their families spent a lot of time around each other and so did arin and mina. an awkward point of growing up knowing exactly who you're going to marry before you really grasp the weight of it all.
my favorite thing to toy with early on is the idea that arin fell first. a small crush, they were both kids, but arin looking for things to like about mina since well... they were supposed to spend the rest of their lives together. its not a BIG crush. it's a small fondness, a small appreciation for her quirks they'd spot. the idea that maybe with time they'd both like each other.
aaaand then the assassination attempt. pocket goes into hiding, mina looks for power elsewhere. five years pass. and when mina catches wind of rumors around the cursed apple of the fairfax heir being alive? she is PISSED. they were supposed to be HERS they ruined EVERYTHING how DARE they fuck it UP!!! what starts as a warpath settles on the two of them realizing how different they've become since the assassination and its... kinda. awkward. pocket's moved on at this point, mina's fit is just... annoying. and mina's just kinda offended that they don't seem to care??? at all?? that they ruined her life??? what the hell.
at some point they talk. just about what happened, the years between when they've last seen each other. pocket might even admit the crush to mina that happened in the past, if the conversations go well. and then mina starts noticing things about pocket that-- really piss her off. no other feeling. it's annoying the way they dress, the way they carry themselves they can't even tie their tie she has to keep fixing if for them, along with their stupid hair and their stupid jacket and their stupid scarf--
Yeah. i also think if they did get married when they were supposed to, they wouldn't work out at all. it's a right person, wrong time situation.
(i also like the idea of mina being the first person pocket comes out to, when they were kids. maybe not explicitly, but the quiet admission that they don't really feel happy being seen as... anything. not really a guy. not really a girl. it's too much. and mina hears this and just goes hm but is supportive. lends makeup for them to try. they're appreciative. whatever. sapphic mina and butch pocket whatever.)
(also i just love pocket falling again for mina but even harder than the first time. totally normal about her. totally doesn't get dizzy when she calls them names. maybe you can get back with your ex-fiance and let your guard down enough to be a little pathetic. just for her. as a treat.)
CRIMETIME
evil women.
this one is sooo FUN. wraith is already a fan of the paradox organization's work and eager to visit their museum, and genuinely respects paradox's work. plus, the thrill of getting with a time thief? yeah, right up her alley.
though i do like the idea that wraith isn't one to shrug off feelings easily. she's not really over her ex. getting with paradox is just a one off bit of fun, nothing else to think about. until she keeps spending time with paradox. and she finds herself thinking of her more. and she finds herself wanting to trust her more-- and then finds herself in that spiral of she can't trust this woman at all, she doesn't even know her name. know her face. she could be after everything she's build, for all she knows.
and she still finds herself seeking paradox's company regardless.
on the other side of things, paradox sees her relationship with wraith as nothing more than a fun little fling. a game, even. some way to pass the time and cure her boredom. what better than to find company with the owner of the biggest gambling ring in all of new york? she respects wraiths work, she knows wraith respects hers-- so of course she can have a little fun. it's temporary. this relationship isn't supposed to last.
and it wont. :')
(i like to write wraith with a lot of trust issues and my bestie writes paradox so unserious so its a really fun combination of wraith wanting to keep paradox close and paradox not giving her any reasons to trust her. and wraith still falls for paradox regardless girl get upppppp)
