I feel like a very important element to why everyone hated Balloon was that he's a team captain. Like he's not just some guy who tried and failed to manipulate an alliance, he's a captain who did that to his team and was also horrible to the rest of the team.

The other important aspect is most of the S1 cast were in a cage with him for months. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a terrible annoying cellmate in that time.

I see people say Balloon wasn't that bad and yeah from an audience perspective sure, but like, The rest of the characters are seeing a terrible manipulative mean team captain. Checks out pretty well why they didn't like him.
