Okay so au where mostly everything is the same. The paladins thought they saved earth, they're still fighting Zarkon but Lance still feels insecure, he misses his family, he doesn't feel like he belongs on the team. So same thing. But. He's talking to Lotor about earth and Lotor is just.. "Lance... earth got destroyed.." and he's just.. "what.. no no.. we- we stopped them." And Lotor has footage from a Galra ship and Lance watches the planet get destroyed. And he's devastated. And he becomes spiteful, he becomes jealous (just like he shows he is a bit in canon). If he can't return to his planet anymore.. he doesn't want anyone to be able to. That's how he turns dark
