"Oi, Gai, I know how much you hate being stuck on desk duty, but I thought these might brighten your day!" The bouquet she presents is widely varied--freesia, yellow carnation, gardenia, two daffodils, a sprig of ginger and a couple of daylilies, with one magnificent amaryllis blossom vibrant and orangey-red right in the center.

Gai was very surprised to be receiving flowers from of all people, Anko. But she was right, he hated desk duty--hated it with a passion, because while he knew how important it was, wasn't he better in the field? There were others more suited to filing paperwork and filling out forms and sitting still! all day. He was so antsy to get up. But her gesture made him smile, and that bold amaryllis with its trumpet-flared petals shone like a sun out of the middle of the other beautiful flowers. Such a beautiful arrangement! The Yamanaka flowershop had outdone itself this time!
"Thank you!" he proclaimed loudly after a brief loss for words. "They are lovely! I--" He stopped short, examining the flowers more closely. "Is this...for... something?" He could think of very few reasons why Anko might send him flowers, or a gift-basket, or such, out of the blue. Most had to do with her wanting something, or with her oft twisted sense of humor. Sometimes she scared him, sometimes more than Ibiki.
