Y'know, that perspective post reminded me - I've been looking at yer blog on and off over the years - I remember seeing you in Australia and the roughness y'had. I remember you visiting Glasgow (but being too afraid to commend you for visiting my home town), and with HStuck ending, I figured I should ask, before I forget to and never get the chance - why Feferi, Eridan and Sollux? What about them enthralled you?

Feferi is close to my heart for lots of reasons. Part of it is her positive end AND her negative ends line up pretty well to me, and in some ways, she doesn’t. (I hope that I’m not as tonedeaf as she is. Here you have this sweet, kindhearted troll who also has NO sense of boundaries and privilege and manages to step in it while spouting fishpuns and is still so adorable you can’t help but love her. And I aspire to her positivity. The idea of an “abdicated” royal-to-be in a long line of murdered heiresses was also ridiculously appealing and I am a sucker for court drama, so this gave me a lot to play with. C:

Sollux is selfless and manages to be a bitch still (Which is a trick, even for him) but he’s cranky and genuinely cares about people, grouchy as he is. He performs selfless act after sacrificing act to protect his friends, and he’s also a sassy drink of water. He’s also ridiculously self-doubting, which I sympathize hard with.

Eridan is the most Extra in the fucking world. When he insults someone it’s not “man what an idiot” it’s something like “you piece a dirty wwater wwashed up garbage aint fit for my boots” and he’s a complete asshole while also being so earnest and determined that he’s basically a self-made tragedy on two finny legs and he’s full of so much potential that it’s fun to see what he’s capable of. (Good or bad.)

All three of them are interesting characters in their own right, but smushing them together in a polycule of any kind of quadrant/relationship just pulls all of these qualities to a head. Feferi and Eridan’s class privilege combined with Sollux’s low standing is interesting, as is the connection with his psionics/ultimate fate. Putting Eridan and Sollux together is either a complete disaster or a distressingly good match, and then putting Feferi in the mix simply amplifies everything.

I’d call this somewhat Canon-confirmed in that Aradia more or less delivered Sollux and Feferi to an awakening Eridan, but at this point proving it in canon isn’t as fun as using it as a springboard to explore these guys.
