biography
aurelia was taken in by the becker's (aunt and uncle of the infamous audrey becker) at the age of five. born to a single mother struggling to keep herself afloat, she'd turned up on their doorstep, given lia to them (no matter how much she cried) and sadly died six months later. they then legally adopted her and her name was changed to aurelia becker.
she displayed high levels of intelligence by being an excellent reader by the age of five, leaps and bounds in front of everyone else in her class. however, it was the social queues she didn't quite understand. there was little thought for other's in the class, frequently shouting out the answer because she just wanted to show them that she knew it already.
it was no surprise to her parents when the school called her gifted but that didn't mean they thought she could do no wrong. lia always wanted a seat at the adults table as she preferred to talk to adults over her peers - perhaps that was because she was an only child or that she struggled to connect with them. she did have a habit of becoming upset easily and instead of a hug, she'd get 'tough love'.
she was a 'daydreamer'. there was a period where she was fully convinced that she could fly because she had, at least in her head. audrey was the first person to dispute this, feeling sorry for the child but at the same time annoyed. lia wanted the older girl to like her so she'd make an extra effort with her but was forthright. she'd said something she hadn't liked and pushed her over. lia's parents knowing that she was an unreliable narrator, they accepted that she'd tripped. she would also go on worried rants about how the town was called deadwood and that the 'forest' wasn't safe and that people were going to die...
an impressionable soul, the murders that had happened had terrified lia (they still did). she wasn't meant to hear any of it but word of mouth travelled fast, from parents to her peers at school. her cousin had killed people? she'd never had many friends and now it seemed that she was losing them one by one (her parents fighting with the other parents) - she felt alienated. still, the family would do the best they could, try to keep everything as normal as they could.
lia was in her first year of high school when audrey was caught and everything started up again. she'd been having nightmares as it was but this made it worse. kids can be cruel but they can be more cruel if your cousin was a murderer. she was severely bullied, teased. an incident of a few other students attempting to flush her head down the toilet would result in her chin being split open, a concussion and being home schooled for the rest of the year - it only solidified to her that people were out to harm her.
there would still be claims of her seeing audrey, screaming in the night or getting up to check that the doors and windows of their house were locked; lia was convinced that she'd come back for her. her parents tried to support her but they finally realised they couldn't - she was fighting something that they couldn't understand so she'd need to see a professional.
once she was in therapy, had been prescribed medication and her parents changed her surname back to lea (which brought up some other negative feelings), she went back to high school. it took her a while to get her grades up since she was behind but she'd worked hard and would move out of deadwood to study languages.
whilst she did have some episodes, she'd learnt how to manage and identify them. living in the big city did prove a challenge but she was making a lot of money as an interpreter and translator, filling her spare time with running, meditation and going to language exchanges to help those wanting to practice.
it was eerie when she found herself back in deadwood. now with a blonde bob (a stark difference to her wavy light brunette locks), returning to help manage her childhood home now that her parents had passed. it was a hard thing to do as it was but so much lingered. still, she found some comfort in being able to have the space (even if she did see audrey sometimes) - she felt accomplished that she could stand it.
now the owner of eden (because she's more productive during the evenings), she passes the time with work, running and meditation to keep her mind as clear as possible. she's been taking care of herself, trying to ignore the strange happenings by keeping herself busy but how much longer can she keep it up?
