Both the toddler and Ibis were oblivious to the panic in Byron and Guy as they realized they’ll have to tell the others and neither one wanted to deliver the news to Seraphine.

Carlos had heard the commotion so he came to check it out. He was now in front of the camera talking to Ibis and Lori, while Byron and Guy argued in the background about what to do.

“We could go over there-”

“So she could rip our heads off? No thank you.”

“Call Adam and have him tell her?”

“Might be best…”

Ibis didn’t bother telling them that he thought she knew already.

Taia had set up her photography development equipment in a corner of the master room but Ibis asked his dad to move it all to the spare room and make it a proper dark room. If that also meant there was no longer a guest room for Saylor, then so be it. Mainly he wanted the space in the master room for his potions setup.

Ibis told them how he’d bought extra ornaments he hadn’t put on the tree yet so the 4 of them gathered together to decorate the tree.

Seraphine walked in and exclaimed “Maman! Papa!”

“Seraphine!”

They all rushed to hug each other. They also expressed in french how much they all missed each other, and how long it had been and whatnot. It was very emotional. But Ibis was mostly lost.

When they were done Seraphine took a step back and motioned at Ibis. “Voici Ibis Deadwyler. Mon…” She stared at him for a moment instead of finishing her sentence. “And Ibis, you’ve met my parents.”

Hands were shook and basic pleasantries exchanged. Then more questions were asked at Seraphine. From what Ibis could gather they were wondering if he was ‘another husband’ followed by questions about the ring.

The next place they visited was a winery. Seraphine’s idea of a house of worship.

Ibis walked into his home and saw Saylor in the living room watching TV. He looked around, partly to make sure he was in the right house, but mostly to confirm his suspicion.

“Where’s Taia?”

Saylor muted the TV and stared at Ibis. “On a date.”

Ibis furrowed his brow and repeated to himself. ‘a date?’

“Yes, it’s what people do to get to know each other in order to hopefully become a couple. It often involves dinner and some sort of bonding activity.”

“I know what a date is.”

“Given your look of confusion and that you never took her on one, I just assumed you didn’t know what it was.”

Ibis gave her a blank stare, with his lips pulled downwards to one side, unamused.
