Random Thought on 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley"
Just re-watched 11x20 "Don't Call Me Shurley" another time. And while this is not new information but built the takeaway of the episode for me and also laid the groundwork for what we saw in 11x21 "All in the Family": that humanity is much better than God, Amara or angels. And while this all has been analyzed already, I only now on third watch noticed how beautifully the two scenes were connected and framed Dean once more as the epitome of humanity here, because before Sam is hit by the fog and Dean hurries to his side to tell him "there's no giving up here!" We got the scene in which Metatron told God that humanity is "better than him" because "above all they never give up". That is exactly what we hear Dean express in that moment: not giving up and contrary to God and in that regard also better than him, trying to save as many people as possible. And in the end it's Dean's call God is answering for once. Given this outro of the episode to me puts him absorbing Dean('s mannerisms) in 11x21 "All in the Family" even more in perspective. And it just troubles and saddens me due to what it may mean for Dean...
