When trendy hotels circulate around the blogosphere, cities like New York and Paris get thrown around a lot but Providence, Rhode Island? Not so much. Well, that's all about to change thanks to the Dean Hotel! Most of the furnishings and decor are the work of local artists and designers, some even studying at RISD.
The Dean is set in a building with quite the history--the 1912 brick building was originally an Episcopalian social services centre then a brothel, then a strip club. I love it when a space has been restructured and has had many lives. I feel like there's something almost romantic about it, you know? The lobby displays the original tiled floor uncovered during renovations--wise choice to keep it, it's stunning! Another one of my favourite features is the cafe modelled after traditional stand-up espresso bars in Italy. Needless to say, I can't take my eyes off the dark hexagon tiles in the washroom and I just love how all the rooms are classic with pops of colour coming from vintage touches like the persian rugs or brass hardware.
