Design requires thought and process. It is not randomly pieced together solely because it is aesthetically pleasing, but because it has a purpose being arranged in that manner.
Necklaces are ornaments adorned on the neck, and can signify emotion because they are worn near the heart. I wanted to create a piece that was close to my heart and my emotions to exemplify how close art is to myself.
My piece is constructed out of nails and wire. Nails may show that one is a martyr to their own emotions or ideals. The nails in my piece represent that I, like the nail, am dedicated to my values as an artist and am headstrong to my ideas. However, through pointing the sharp ends away from the wearer of the necklace, I wanted to show that I am not just attached to a single thought, but that I can also adapt to change. The plethora of nails I pieced together forms the shape of multiple dandelion-like objects. This also demonstrates that I am like the dandelion and spread my ideas everywhere I go; I am not just closed to my own perception.
