Contemporary ballet tonight! Very excited. Also cooked wrap mix for the first time in my new big stock pot, it’s so nice to just add more diced tomatoes if I want because there’s loads of room in the pot. The nights are getting cold again with all this rain. The show is called Momenta. I got there early and promptly shat my entire guts out - think it was the sour cream at lunch starting to turn.
It definitely wasn’t my preferred method of watching ballet, having a burning heat rise and fall in my belly like an ocean tide, but that didn’t stop the ballet being any less fantastic. The play of light and shadow on human figures was incredible - a constant stream of motion. An orb of smoke began to form in the air and descended to the stage where it hung like a fog so thick that the dancers disappeared when they walked into it.
There was a set of lights like a UFO, low to the ground and then rising higher. My heart stopped when the lights suddenly became blood red, with a colour so thick that it was almost like liquid. The lighting production in this show absolutely ate, it served cunt, it werked and everything in between. A deep ocean green so thick that the dancers stood like strands of kelp, then suddenly hospital white. So many figures moving in shadow, it’s amazing how the mind stitches in the in-betweens. And orange-gold amalgamation of limbs, an organism bigger than themselves.
The finale really felt like a finale - deep midnight blue with twinkling glitter slowly falling from the sky. I found myself breathing a sigh of relief when every dancer paused and tipped their heads back, as if I too were in the rain.
I clapped until my arms ached, then I went to the toilets and promptly shat my guts out round 2: electric boogaloo. When I get home, that sour cream is going straight in the bin.
