Brief detective+sidekick AU of Elsa and Colton, written by the lovely Lex <3

"Go home, Colton," Elsa sighed, looking up from the file she was reading over for what must’ve been the hundredth time. Though she offered the young man a smile, it was feeble, and the way she sat slumped over the papers made it obvious she was exhausted. "We’ll try again tomorrow, okay?"

When Colton left, Elsa decided one more read through then she’d go home as well. Nothing. Not a damn clue and she’d read the case front to back and back to front so much she felt almost as if she could recite what all the documents said. Letting out an exasperated groan she shut the manilla folder and pushed her chair back as she got to her feet. Locking the file in the cabinet, she grabbed her coat and strode out of the room, a pensive frown on her face, her hands shoved into her pockets.

She wracked her brain for something, anything, that might help as she got into her car and drove home. Going through the motions of pouring herself a glass of wine after draping her coat over the back of a chair, she finally thought of something. Picking up her phone Elsa waited for the ringing to stop and the sound of his hello on the other end to greet her. “I have something,” she remarked.

"We have a body," the other detective spoke when she answered her phone the following morning.

"I’ll be there," Elsa replied after receiving the location.

Upon arriving, the woman lifted the yellow crime scene tape and stepped beneath it, stopping when she’d reached the body. Colton, her sidekick, lay there. She was still scanning the surrounding area when she felt her phone vibrate and stepped away for a minute to read the message: Lasseter’s been taken care of.

Just a little something for myself.

Since no one actually reads this shitty little blog of mine. I saw some one do this and although it was in response to an ask they had received it sparked an idea in my mind. To write a letter to multiple pasts me from a different part in my life. Everyone has their fair share of dark moments and I am certainly no exception to that rule and I wish I could of had some foresight into the future when I was going through my toughest moments so I could see it wasn't all bad. So here goes. Dear 10 year old Elsa I know your wondering round the playground or hiding in the toilets because no one will play with you or be 'your friend' but don't let those little shits get you down. You wouldn't believe me if I said in ten years time most of them would end up useless layabouts but its true. Most of them are either jobless and claiming off the government or trying to find their next meal and all you can do is feel sorry for them because they've wasted their own time and be glad that you didn't bust your gut trying to be their friend because they're really not worth it. You will meet some beautiful people along your way and they are the people who should matter the most to you not those oxygen hoggers in the play ground. I wish I could tell you that you won't be the shortest in the class but that would be a lie. You're still a midget. Dear 14 year old Elsa This has been your hardest year and all I want to say is I'm very very proud of you. You dealt with your biggest loss with the upmost grace and dignity and although the feeling of loss will never go away and missing mum will be with you every day the grief does get easier to deal with, so carry on what your doing its a long road ahead. Dear 15 year old Elsa Don't start smoking. Dear 17 year old Elsa Another hard year and this time because of a stupid boy. He is not the love of your life. The world is not ending. You are not going to die. Listen to your friends and get the fuck over him, p.s don't jump into bed with first creep you meet you'll regret it. Dear 18 year old Elsa Don't listen to a world that ass weasel has to say he's manipulating you and making false promises. You will resent him for making you do what you really don't want to. He will cheat on you and two years from now he'll be in a relationship with a 16 year old living at her parents house. You will never get over the grief of that heart breaking decision but in time you will come to realise it was the best decision you ever made. Learn from your mistakes do not make the same ones twice. Dear 19 year old Elsa Pretty much the same speech as I made to you two years ago. Only there is a light at the end of the tunnel, come off those meds spend plenty of time with your friends and forget that ass weasel and his friends. Grieve your mother properly and that other thing that you really rather not talk about. Dear me 10 months ago Don't be a dick with your money, you will regret it. Dear me 7 months ago No you didn't get that promotion. No it doesn't mean you're shit it just means there is a better plan for you. Dear me now. Stop getting so drunk you make a fucking tit of yourself. By all means have fun but for gods sake control yourself girl.
