She walked down the halls of the castle, half in a daze and the other half in reality. She still couldn’t believe she was here. In England. She couldn’t just go see her sister right away, she was still preparing herself for that encounter. So, the Princess resided herself to the courtyard. That was until she remembered meeting Nikolaj here, in this very castle, meeting with him in places like these right before she followed him on the boat and left England.
Her brunette hair that once would have been curled and properly washed, was not as of yet. Her clothes were still ones that the fisherman’s wife had let her wear as her fine dress had been worn and tattered from months of wearing it and getting it caught on men’s shoes, and the fisherman’s wife was aghast at her wearing mens clothing so was given a dress that may not have been as fine as her silks back home, but Alexandria cherished it still, leaving the women with probably too much gold for such an act of kindness.
Tears ran down her face as memories good and bad came to her, of the time she spent on the pirate ship, spending time learning how to defend herself, on the language and how she was first treated aboard the ship as well. She thought of how she had left England, a mess of tears and reckless abandon. Wanting to flee from everything and everyone that was here.
Her hand moved to wipe away the tears and rested on her belly which was showing her bump, a bump which she wouldn’t give up for the world. But the child she carried with her was a gift and burden, Alex knew that deep down. She was no longer pure, no longer a grand bargaining chip in the great game. Who would want to marry a woman with a child, a child of a pirate? If any did, it wouldn’t be some grand prince or king that would sweep her off her feet.
She could care less about who she was married off to, as long as it provided her son or daughter with a good life. She could make it through a marriage if it were one like the French King and Queen had, especially if her intended was not agreeable to her liking. Her thoughts drifted to an fro as she sat trying to not cry anymore, not even registering the sound of footsteps nearing her.
