“It’s tough to not get grumpy. It’s so tempting” delphine x edie

Eddie was exhausted from the forced socializing he and Delphine had been forced to endure. They had listened to endless prattle about stocks -- and some of his neighbors’ trading habits bordered on illegal -- and whose children were ‘practically destined to end up together’ but they didn’t find anything that brought them closer to fulfilling their intelligence mission.
In their bedroom, Eddie tugged at his tie while Delphine slid out of her shoes and rummaged in her drawer for something to sleep in. Eddie quickly slipped out of his slacks and button-down shirt and pulled his sweatpants from his own drawer, and answered as he pulled them over his briefs.
“Yeah, no kidding,” he said. “If I had to hear about attachment parenting one more time, I was going to blow my cover just to get the fuck out of there.” At Delphine’s glare, he quickly added, “just mine. Not yours.”
“Why are so many of our neighbors such assholes?” he continued, flopping onto the bed and watching Delphine curiously as she removed her makeup and pulled the pins from her hair. “And why are they such assholes who aren’t even criminals?”
Delphine snorted and turned to look at Eddie, and he felt his face heat up, already anticipating embarrassment.
“Too much money and not enough sense,” she replied, and Eddie had to agree.
“Well, hopefully we find something soon. So we can at least shut them up for a day or so.”
