new WOOD GIANT prototype in the house Gibson BFG, a hugely underrated guitar. modifications to the BFG include:
- removal one volume pot. - plugging hole in body with oak dowel. - rewiring for master volume / master tone. - replacement of all wiring with solid core 22g copper wire. - capacitor swap to beefy and sonically pleasing .033 paper in oil cap. - replacement of stock pickups with B L K / T R I COSMIC GIANT (1 of 3) bridge pickup and WOOD GIANT P90 neck pickup. - reseating kill switch for ease of use.
I absolutely love these guitars and have ever since they were released 2007. I felt like someone had made it just for me back then, and still do today. I ordered my first one as soon as they were available from a buddy that worked at Guitar Center in Richmond, VA. I loved the guitar but wasn’t as stoked on the Burstbucker 3 at the bridge, which eventually led to me selling it years later. Obviously this was long before BLK/TRI. I picked this one up last year on Reverb.com for a total score, owing the low price to a headstock repair, which was done quite well and holds hard and fast. My one and only major factory change I would have made would have been to carve out the forearm rest area in a Strat-style fashion for some added comfort, and maybe a minor back contour to suit as well… but that’s just me. All in all, she’s a keeper, especially with the replacement of the neck P90 with our new WOOD GIANT model.
