So uuuuuh @sadflakedraws about your Deathloop Au. A thought.
At first I figure Reigen is ecstatic to see Mob alive and well for the first few ‘reboots’. He sticks close to Mob, paying a lot of attention to details about Mob. But when he doesn’t see anything there, when he’s tried all he could he turns his focus outward. Mob’s school, the club, their jobs, his home, where he walks, EVERYTHING about Mob that isn’t actually Mob.
And through all of this he ends up being distant? With his focus on everything else, on trying to save Mob, he almost ignores Mob. Questions answered with noncommittal grunts, concerns raised and pushed aside, small talk ignored. Several reboots of this and Reigen still doesn’t see that he’s pushing Mob away more and more each time.
Eventually Reigen, for lack of a better word, ignores Mob. Brushes past him to investigate something he learned from the last round, some hint, some clue. Some loose string he has to pull and see what unravels.
He leaves Mob behind, confused and maybe a little hurt.
And that’s what causes the end of this round. Reigen leaves Mob alone. To fight, to survive, to struggle. And to die.
When Reigen runs back he finds the aftermath of a battle. Another one. But this was different. He wasn’t there. His loose string revealed nothing and he failed. Again. Again, again, again, he’s failed again.
He cradles Mob in his arms. He’s torn between horror, guilt, and an odd, sad acceptance.
Mob stirs, sees Reigen crying. Confusion mixes with pain, but he smiles.
“Ah. You aren’t mad. That’s good.”
Then he’s gone.
And Reigen starts again.
