break ups were hard especially when they came out of nowhere and that was how you currently found yourself. knees deep into a crying session and trying to find comfort which was hard considering your closest friend was currently playing a game in Spain (or so you thought).
alexis had known that you were currently going through the worst break up of your life and he wanted nothing more than to be there but considering he had to attend games to show that he was ready to captain the German national team, it was mandatory to show up and play for a few minutes.
a shitty movie was playing in the background as you scrolled through previous messages between you and your ex boyfriend. all the promises he made were all lies and you couldn't fathom it.
a call suddenly popped up on your screen showing that Alexis was face timing you. you eyes fluttered in confusion given that he was supposed to be playing against Spain.
"alexis, what are you doing? you're face timing me while you're in the locker room?" he sighed when he realized that you were once again sitting at home crying over that stupid ex of yours, "mein schatz, are you still crying about him?" you nodded sadly as he slipped on his shoes.
alexis knew that you would be, it didn't take an idiot to realize how hung up you were on your ex which is why he was on the first flight out of Spain to join you once again.
he knew that if he had told you that he was going to leave early so he could go back to be with you, you'd give him the scolding of a lifetime but now that he had landed back home and had to stop at Allianz Arena to pick up a few things before his break began.
"can you at least get off the couch and make some dinner, I don't want you going hungry over that idiot." you nodded, not giving him a verbal response and got off the couch to see what you had in the fridge, "there's not much Lexi but I think I can make something with what I have."
he gave you a nod of approval before quickly saying goodbye and hanging up the call. before he made the stop to your place, he stopped at your favorite store to pick up a few of your favorite snacks before surprising you.
once you finished making your lazy dinner and went to the table to start eating, you heard your door bell going off which left you very confused considering you weren't expecting anyone at your door at this hour.
you looked through the peephole and sighed in realization, of course it was Alexis.
"Lexi, how early did you leave your game to come and surprise me?" he gave you a sheepish smile and handed you the small bouquet of your favorite snacks, "Lexi, you're insane. you're supposed to be in Spain with the rest of the team!"
he shrugged you off and let himself in. he immediately looked over to the stove to make sure that you had actually made yourself food. once he put the rest of his things down, he sat on your couch until you finished eating.
"how was it playing with Michael again? nervous?" you asked. he shrugged and stared down at couch, "we still play as great as ever together but it was time we separated. I think he's still shocked that they picked me over him for the captain position."
"I think you'll do great as captain, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, okay?" you said over sniffles. he stared at you with eyes of adoration and moved closer to you, "and why don't you take that same advice and stop crying over that stupid man?"
you sighed and sunk into the couch, "it's easier said than done Alexis, he promised me marriage and a life together and I found out a month ago that he was cheating on me? I hate him!" you screamed through anger.
alexis brought you in to let you cry on his shoulder, "please don't think you deserved that because you absolutely didn't. one day the love of your life will appear and it'll be a distant memory."
you wiped your nose with a tissue and sighed once again, "but when? i'm tired of watching all of my friends get married and have kids and i'm still stuck on the same conversation of "what's your favorite color" it's actually embarrassing."
alexis chuckled and pulled your head up to make you look at him, "maybe you're not looking in the right direction," he said with a seriousness in his voice, "maybe the person has been in front of you this entire time."
when it finally clicked that he was talking about himself, your mouth hung in slight shock. never once did you expect that Alexis ever had this kind of confidence and truthfully? you were excited to see that side of him.
in the midst of wiping your tears away, you looked up to Alexis, "are you being serious right now?" you asked slowly. he nodded just as cautiously and grabbed your hand, "you deserve the world and I can be the one to give you."
genuine shock was an understatement but you knew that with Alexis, he was always true to his word. you gave him a slow nod and squeezed his hand in reassurance.
being with Alexis meant doing everything together. the two of you were immediately attached at the hip once you were open to seeing where things would go with Alexis.
if there was anything to do with a magic show and Alexis's schedule allowed it? the two of you were there. Alexis knew it would take a while for you to allow your heart to open up to him but he would wait even if it meant months or years.
whenever his schedule was busy with soccer or anything that pulled him away from you, he'd try to bring you a long if he could. he knew that this always couldn't be the case considering you had your own life and family to attend too but if you were able too and his schedule allowed it, he'd definitely try to bring you along.
when Alexis fell in love with something, he fell in love fast. his obsession over magic as a kid? happened quicker than most thought. his relationship with Michael? same thing happened there and you were no different, however; he knew that he would have to take your pace if he wanted to be with you.
holidays were spent with your family most of the time. he didn't have the best relationship with his family and would prefer to spend it alone or with Michael (at least during the time when they were friends).
if any activities involved snow, Alexis would be there and you'd be right by his side. truthfully, being with someone like Alexis was like a breath of fresh air.
Alexis made sure to treat you to weekly dates if time allowed. if his schedule didn't, he'd bring you followers not only when he returned home but randomly throughout the week whenever he was gone and they were always some colored flowers that matched his magenta hair.
whenever he saw you wearing his jersey, he was over the moon and that was to put it lightly. he'd definitely be more handsy if he saw you up in the morning in nothing but his jersey and underwear. he would sneak up behind you and wrap his arms around your torso.
kids? yes. marriage? absolutely. he didn't even take a full year to fully realize that he wanted to marry you. he knew you were the one and he definitely wanted kids. if he knew you weren't fond or ready for them, I think the relationship wouldn't last. he would want to give his kids the childhood he couldn't have.
the proposal was everything you could've imagined and more. being that Alexis made that everything was set into place, he proposed the day he won a championship with the German national team. whether it be the world cup or the European championship, it was definitely one of the top trophies he could win for Germany and as soon as they gave him the trophy, he immediately lifted it into the air and gave it to Michael before finding you.
he ran into your arms, not really caring if others saw him and gave you a fat kiss on the lips. you wrapped your arms around his neck and returned the kiss. once the two of you pulled away, he dug into his pocket and showed you the ring. his forehead was touching yours and whispered the proposal. you immediately accepted, tears coming down both of your faces as you brought him in for another kiss.
the wedding itself was small, simple, and intimate. the guest list wasn't very long, both of you making sure to invite only those who you really wanted there and not spend too much on it. the honeymoon was a few weeks in a place both you and him wanted to visit. if he wanted a cold climate, you made sure to pick a warm climate so the two of you could experience both.
and that honeymoon trip was where your first baby was conceived. you two didn't wait even a second so it didn't come off as a surprise when you and Alexis both found out you were pregnant. you had done the test with him and instead of crying, you both found yourselves laughing at the positive test.
alexis made sure to build the nursery to the best of his abilities. while he wanted everything to be hand made, you made sure to assure him that some things that were prebuilt was okay. the theme magician theme'd of course. Alexis genuinely loved the theme and with a few tweaks to the style, by the time you both finished the nursery, you only had a few weeks left.
the labor and delivery was on the easier side. you had given birth to a baby boy, naming him after Alexis (to which he teared up when both of you had decided on it). the magenta hair already peeking out of his little head and Alexis seeing you holding his baby was like the closest thing to magic he had ever felt.

Your daughter gets her heart broken, and he doesn’t know what to do except feed her (single mom!reader, he’s your boyfriend who recently moved you both into his penthouse);
She sat collapsed inward on the stool at the kitchen island, scrubbing at her eyes with furious fists- as if she could physically grind away the tears that refused to stop spilling. She knew-knew-it was foolish to dissolve over a boy, and she hated the thought of disturbing the fragile, precious thing you had finally found after so many years of solitary struggle with her foolish, loud wailing. You, her mother, who had worked yourself raw and thinned your spirit to raise her alone, had at last stumbled into a slice of happiness. And that happiness wore his face.
Him. Your new boyfriend. The man who, in her opinion, was a little too watchful, a little too present, and a little too obsessive in the way his gaze followed you through rooms like you were the only fixed point in his universe. But his love for you had become so vast that it had overflowed its banks, spilling into every corner of your life- including her.
He was generous to a fault, tender in a way that left her off-balance, especially when one considered that she shared none of his blood. And she would sooner swallow glass than jeopardize this- than let her unsightly, teenage grief crack the peace you had so hard-won. So she muffled her sobs into her clenched fist as her chest caved and her eyes burned.
And this is how he found her: shoulders trembling, face blotched scarlet and swollen, her small frame folded like a broken bird. And something in his chest gave a slow, raw squeeze.
He had no real experience with children. He had certainly never fathered any. Teenage angst was a language he didn't speak, a terrain he had never learned to navigate. But for her- and for you- he would teach himself.
He approached, and she went rigid, her shoulders locking with the instinct of a cornered thing. But he only settled his palm on her head, a gentle, grounding weight, and she crumbled, sobs tearing out of her with renewed force.
He poured her a glass of water and guided it to her lips, coaxing her to drink. Then he plucked tissues from the box and dabbed at her runny nose with surprising tenderness.
"I can do it," she mumbled, half-hearted.
"It's okay, dear."
He set the glass aside and moved to the stove, brewing a cup of jasmine tea and sliding it before her. Steam curled upward like a quiet offering.
"Drink," he said. "You can barely speak. Your throat must be raw." He patted her shoulder once, a brief, anchoring touch, before disappearing back into the kitchen.
Then the stove clicked to life. Butter sizzled in the pan, golden and fragrant. And soon, the kitchen swelled with the warm, earthy perfume of herbs and spices as he set about his quiet mission.
First came a simple broth- clear, nourishing, steaming- which he placed before her with careful hands.
She looked up, sniffling. "I'm not-"
"Just try," he said, voice low and steady. "You don't have to talk. You don't have to do anything. Just… eat something warm."
Then came the main course: a seared steak, golden hash browns, and a mountain of mashed potatoes-why so much potato?-arranged with the exacting attention of someone who didn't know how to show care any other way.
"Want me to cut it for you?" he offered.
She laughed, a wet, startled sound. "I'm not a baby."
She stared at the spread for a long, uncertain moment, then lifted her fork. A fresh tear slipped down her cheek as she took the first bite. He said nothing. He simply remained there, leaning against the counter at a careful remove, arms crossed to keep himself from reaching for her too soon.
He kept cooking. It was the only language he trusted himself with right now.
"Boys are stupid," he muttered eventually, more to himself than to her, while he stirred. "Most of them, anyway. The ones who make you cry like this don't deserve the air they waste."
She let out a watery little laugh that collapsed into another sniffle. He risked a glance and offered the barest, careful smile.
"How do you even know it's a boy?" she asked.
"Girls only cry this bitterly when it's a boy," he said, shrugging. "Educated guess." She laughed again, a little stronger this time, and took another mouthful.
"You don't have to pretend you're okay for me," he said, his voice dropping into something softer. "I've got nowhere better to be. And your mom…" His voice gentled the way it always did when your name passed his lips, like each syllable was something sacred he was terrified of dropping. "Your mom would want you fed and warm and not alone with it. So that's what we're doing."
He didn't pry. Didn't ask for the boy's name or the particulars of the wound. He just kept the kitchen steeped in the scent of butter and sugar and safety, kept the dishes coming, kept his presence steady and unthreatening. When her shoulders finally began to unbind, he dared to step closer, sliding a clean napkin across the counter so she could blot her face.
"You're allowed to take up space here," he told her quietly. "Even the messy parts. Especially the messy parts."
She stilled.
"So don't muffle your tears," he continued, his voice a low, steady anchor. "Don't swallow your words. If there's anything you want to do-anything at all-you can do it here. And if there's anything you want me to handle…" He paused, and something flickered in his eyes, something quiet and fierce. "I'll handle it."
By the time you walked through the door, you were met with a mountain of dishes teetering in the sink, a thick haze of spice hanging in the air, and the sight of your boyfriend and your very red-faced, tear-streaked daughter perched side by side, eating ice cream from the same carton.
Your heart lurched. You crossed to her, tilting her chin up with gentle fingers. "My god... baby, what happened?" you breathed, your voice catching. "Who did this to you?"
"I'm okay now, Mama," she said, summoning a brave, wobbly smile. "I promise."
Your brow knitted deeper, worry creasing your features.
He rose from his stool and came to you, pressing a kiss to your temple, his lips lingering against your skin.
"She's okay," he murmured, the words warm against you. "Ate everything I put in front of her. Cried a lot. I didn't push. Just… fed her and stayed close." His thumbs traced slow, soothing circles at your waist, possessive and gentle all at once. "I didn't know what else to do. I only know I can't stand seeing anything that belongs to you hurt. Including her."
He kissed the corner of your mouth- soft, reverent- then deeper, as if he needed the taste of you to quiet the restless worry still humming beneath his skin. You sighed into him, then pulled away to wrap your arms around your daughter, drawing her close.
"You know you can tell me anything," you said, pressing a kiss to her hair. "I never raised you to suffer in silence or make yourself small. So whenever you feel ready… come find me, okay? Mama will handle it."
His heart swelled as he took in the sight of you two-curled together, your hands stroking her hair, your daughter's face finally softening into something like peace as she clung tight to you, hands locked around your waist like the child she was finally letting herself be in your embrace.
This was his family.
He might be awkward, a little clumsy in his affections, still learning the contours of this strange new life. But that didn't mean he wouldn't raze the world to ash for you and your-their-daughter.
Whoever and whatever was precious to you would always, always, have his protection.

k's notes: One last post before I go on a hiatus for my exams! I will miss you my dear readers! I do hope people are reading my notes.!(╥﹏╥)
Fun fact; when me and my bsf were introduced to Ox's crush on Kim, she made a running joke shipping me with the fella. I would be the "nice" Kim to Ox. (ㆆࡇㆆ") I also separated the lines whenever there's dialogue! Easier to read!
Time had passed since the death of the previous Shinigami. Today was the anniversary of his passing and where Kid became a true Death God. The city bustled with noise as citizens gathered around in the middle to pay respects. A statue of Kid's father stood surrounded by bouquets of flowers and offerings, a friendly expression carved on the skull mask as if laughing and smiling at the people. The male watched from afar, a saddened look on his face reflected in the window of the office, his usually composed features softened by quiet grief.
Golden eyes, the same shade as the sun above, wandered to the picture hung on the wall. It was a photograph capturing different figures. Among them was his father, who posed with suave confidence, his gloved hand taking the form of bunny ears neatly positioned behind Medusa's head. What an unfortunate death she suffered.
Kid stepped away from the window, in his arms carrying a cardboard box filled with old paperwork along student records. He decided on moving to a new office, one with equal windows and a symmetrical layout. The ravenette walked towards the other side where filing cabinets sat, shoes wandered past the office door when the door suddenly swung open.
He stumbled forward, barely managing to catch himself before hitting the floor but the box in his hands slipped from his grasp. Its contents scattered across the polished floor, papers in every direction.
"How hard is it to knock.?"
Kid clicked his tongue in irritation, lean fingers coming to massage the bridge of his nose attempting to soothe the sudden headache he sustained. The figure standing at the door let out a light giggle as she playfully shrugged in dismissal.
"Oopsies~" She met the stern stare of her meister then wandered to the mess littered on the floor before returning back to his narrowed eyes.
"Eh.. I'll be back later!" The blonde whirled around to leave the scene, running off into the hallway while Kid called after her
"Patty!" He watched as the girl descended down below, disappearing from his vision as a small scowl set his features
"How annoying.." A low sigh left his lips at the sight of messy papers.
"Father.." He hummed quietly which stemmed as a whisper as soft as snow. "..Why couldn't you organize these in folders?"
Kid's eye twitched as his gaze continued to lay on the paper piles. Compared to the perfectly tidied floor surrounding him, the scattered documents were an eyesore. He stared at the mess for another moment before reluctantly kneeling down, both knees pressing against the floor.
The fabric of his trousers brushed against the polished surface with every movement, producing a faint rustle as he began gathering the scattered papers. His fingers moved swiftly then something caught his attention.
A clear folder laid amongst the documents– Kid could make out several files placed inside. A small label had been attached to the front which read “Special Case” He raised a brow, sparking the curiosity to investigate further.
The male turned the folder over in his hands before opening it. Kid noticed the student portrait of Kim Diehl, her slightly grown pink hair and young face captured the time after Asura's defeat. They must've made her a new profile when the alliance with the witches formed.
Seeing the familiar face brought back memories of his former classmate, subtle but noticeable enough to soften his expression. Yet the smile disappeared almost as quickly as it came when his fingers moved to the next file.
Amber eyes read along the lines, carefully analysing each information, processing the words before him, then he noticed the small portrait attached to the corner of the page. It was you. A picture of you taken when you'd first entered the academy. Kid's gaze lingered on it for a moment longer than necessary before drifting toward the information printed beside it.
For several seconds, he simply stared at the word. Beside species, it stated witch– the folder remained open in his hands yet he no longer seemed to notice the scattered pages surrounding him. "..A witch?"
Kid remembered every moment he'd spent with you, all the conversations, the memories. Not once had you mentioned anything about being a witch. He had simply assumed you were human. Now that he thought about it, there had been signs.
He had never been able to sense your soul. That alone should have been enough to make him suspicious but he never questioned it.
The ravenette stared down at the document, his expression unnervingly blank. There was no anger in his eyes nor any sadness. He couldn't even decide which emotion he was supposed to feel. Was he angry? Hurt? Betrayed?
His fingers carefully slipped beneath the edge of your record, lifting the paper from the scattered documents. He carried it to the nearest desk and placed it down with care.
⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹
For the rest of the afternoon, Kid kept himself occupied. Boxes were moved from one side of the room to the other, furniture was rearranged until everything sat at equal distances from one another.
By the time the office was beginning to resemble the space he'd envisioned, Kid stood motionless in front of his desk. His arms were folded across his chest as his gaze fixed on the single sheet of paper resting on the wooden surface.
He had spent the entire afternoon trying to understand why it bothered him so much. Eventually, he realized what it was. He was hurt. Not because you were a witch, no. It was the fact that you'd kept it from him.
Did you not trust him enough to tell him? Had you been afraid he'd turn against you if he found out? Did anyone else know?
The thought only became more difficult to swallow when he remembered the alliance with the witches. You had been there when Kim's identity was revealed. You had watched everything unfold yet you'd remained silent about your own.
The logical thing would be to confront you and ask for an explanation. He deserved an answer at the very least. Though, some part of him wanted to avoid seeing you altogether. It was childish.. He was being childish.
By evening, the academy had grown quieter. Most of the students had already left, leaving only the staff members remaining. The setting sun poured through the tall windows, casting warm orange light across the polished floors and stretching the shadows of the empty hallways behind you.
Kid had asked you to meet him in his new office. You weren't entirely sure why– still, you followed the directions you'd been given, eventually stopping in front of the unfamiliar door. After a brief knock, you pushed it open.
The office was still only partially furnished. A few boxes remained stacked near the walls. Everything was arranged with careful precision though there were still empty spaces lingering to be filled. Kid stood in front of his desk, leaning against its edge.
His golden eyes met yours the moment you stepped inside.
"Hey." You greeted him with a smile, glancing around the room as you stepped further inside.
"Hi." His reply was quieter than usual, taking in a quick breath before his gaze slipped away from yours as he briefly glanced toward the desk behind him. The file was still there, hidden beneath another stack of papers.
He suddenly felt too warm– his suit fitting tighter than it had moments ago and he found himself adjusting his collar before forcing his hands back to his sides. "What did you need me for?"
You took the initiative, approaching him with an easy expression. The ravenette's eyes flickered toward you again before he looked away. For a moment, he considered telling you.
Instead, he glanced around the room. "What do you think?"
Your attention followed his, taking in the newly arranged furniture. "Nice! It looks good so far." Your answer came so naturally that something in his chest tightened.
"Yeah?" Kid's voice was softer.
"That's good to hear." There was something strange about the way he said it as though he was hiding something.
You studied him for a moment. "Is that why you called me in?"
He nodded before affirming verbally. "Yes."
The lie felt heavier than it should have. Kid looked toward the remaining boxes, searching for something else to occupy his attention.
"I still have things to do." His mouth moved before he could properly think about what he was saying.
“You should leave." He immediately regretted them, that’s not what he wanted to say at all.
Your expression shifted into confusion, the smile fading slightly from your face.
"Sorry-" He turned toward you, already trying to correct himself but the rest of the sentence caught somewhere in his throat when he saw the faint frown settling between your brows.
"I didn't mean it like that.!" His voice softened.
"I just..I don't want you waiting for me." Before you could respond, the second bell of the day rang through the academy, its echo carrying down the emptying corridors. By now, most of the students had already gone home leaving the halls noticeably quieter than they had been only an hour ago.
Kid glanced toward the windows where the light of evening had already begun to fade into a deeper shade of blue.
"It'll be dark by the time I'm finished here." He explained, his fingers lightly tapping against the edge of the desk.
"..I wouldn't want you getting home late, is all." The sincerity in his voice made it clear that he wasn't lying completely.
You stared at him for another moment before your expression softened. "You could've just said that." A small shrug followed as you turned toward the door, accepting his explanation.
"I know." Kid's gaze remained on you. For a brief moment, he considered stopping you. Telling you to stay. Asking you the questions that had been sitting heavily on his mind since he'd found that file.
Instead, he remained where he was. "I just." He paused, searching for the right words.
"I feel a little off today." His voice lacked its usual confidence. There was something distant about it. The anniversary of his father’s death. Perhaps that was it.
"That's fine." You said gently. "You're allowed to grieve."
Kid went still as that wasn't his reason. He was still grieving his father, of course. He always would be in some way but the heaviness sitting in his chest tonight had nothing to do with it.
Still, he couldn't bring himself to correct you. "Yeah." You offered him one last smile before reaching for the door.
"I'll see you tomorrow, then. Bye!" The door closed behind you with a soft click. "Mmh.. Goodnight."
The ravenette remained where he was, staring at the closed door. The office was silent again. His eyes slowly drifted toward the desk– toward the paper he'd hidden beneath the others.
How was he supposed to look at you tomorrow and pretend he hadn't discovered the truth?
⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹
Morning came though he didn’t feel any better. At first, you didn't think much of Kid's behavior. There were plenty of reasonable explanations for why he hadn't stopped to talk.
He was busy, had paperwork to finish or meetings to attend. Whenever you happened to cross paths, there always seemed to be some excuse. You didn’t question them at least not at the start but then it became a pattern.
He stopped appearing in the places you usually found him. If you entered a hallway and spotted him at the other end, he'd suddenly turn down another corridor. If you approached while he was speaking with someone, his attention would conveniently shift elsewhere. Even his usual greetings became less, replaced by brief glances before he found some reason to leave.
You sat alone on one of the benches in the dwma's garden, elbows resting against your knees as you stared down at the grass. What had you done?
You tried retracing every conversation you'd had with him, anything you'd said that might have offended him but nothing. Maybe you'd done something without realizing it?
Your thoughts wandered back to that day. He was a bit strange but you'd assumed it was because of his father's anniversary. It made sense at the time. Kid had always been affected by it and you hadn't wanted to pry.
You lowered your gaze as another thought passed by. There was one thing you'd never told him. A secret you'd carried for years and no one knew– no one alive that is.
Kid couldn't have discovered it. Could he? Unless, that person returned from the dead! The thought was ridiculous. There was no reason to believe that and yet it was the only reasonable explanation. The male wasn't someone who avoided confrontation which made this more confusing.
You leaned back against the bench, closing your eyes.
"Oh kamisama, please.. give me a sign on what I should do.." Your hands came together in a loose prayer.
After a while of quiet stillness, the lids to your gaze fluttered awake, attention immediately settling onto a dark head of hair, visible on one of the academy's balconies.
You blinked but before you could get a proper look, the figure vanished from sight. "Huh."
Your gaze remained fixed on the balcony and a second later, two beams of pink light descended from above at swift speed before striking the empty grounds below. "Huh." That was certainly a sign.
You made your way toward the spot you'd seen him only to find the balcony completely empty by the time you arrived. You glanced around searching for any sign of where he'd gone but there was nothing. Where could he have gone?
A frustrated sigh escaped you as you took a slow breath– trying to gather your thoughts. Perhaps you could wait in his office instead and ambush him from behind. Wonderful idea! You turned back toward the hallway but stopped when you rounded the corner.
Kid was walking toward you. Your eyes widened slightly and for a brief second, you expected him to turn around the moment he noticed you. Instead, he continued forward.
You quickened your pace before he could change his mind.
"There you are.!"
"I'm sorry."
The words left both of you at nearly the same time. You stopped a respectable distance away from him, staring at the ravenette in surprise. Kid looked just as caught off guard though the tension he'd carried for the past few days seemed lighter.
"I shouldn't have ignored you." He lowered his gaze for a moment, fingers shifting uneasily at his sides.
"Yeah, you shouldn't have!" Your immediate agreement made his lips press into a thin line, though he didn't argue.
"I feel horrible for doing so and.." He paused, gathering himself before meeting your eyes again.
"I came to talk things out. Properly, this time." You'd been right. Something had been bothering him.
"About?"
Kid hesitated for a moment before talking. "A few days ago, I discovered your student file. It stated that you were.."
You already knew what he was about to say. "A witch." You both spoke at the same time.
A brief silence followed before you nodded.
"That's correct, I am.. one." Kid's expression remained conflicted though the confirmation eased his worries.
"Why were you snooping through my files?" His eyebrows immediately lifted in bafflement.
"I wasn't snooping.!" He shook his head, almost offended by the accusation. "I was sorting through Father's things. There were boxes of old paperwork everywhere and your file happened to be among them."
His voice softened as he continued. "That's how I found out."
You opened your mouth to respond but Kid spoke before you could. "Why didn't you tell me?" The question was quieter than the others.
He tilted his head slightly, his golden eyes holding yours. There was no accusation in them now– only hurt remained.
"I thought you trusted me."
"I do trust you.!"
You answered immediately, almost stumbling over the words in your hurry to reassure him. Kid's brows drew together.
"If you did, you wouldn't have kept something this important hidden from me."
His voice wasn't raised but the disappointment behind it made the words sting. "What else are you hiding.? I barely know anything about you."
The male looked away for a moment before continuing. "Are you even who you say you are?"
"You're being dramatic."
"I-I am not."
Kid's voice cracked slightly with frustration as he composed himself again. "I just feel ..hurt knowing you've kept this from me all these years."
He exhaled, shoulders dropping. "I kept thinking there had to be a reason you never told me. I just didn't expect it to be something this significant."
You lowered your gaze. "I..had my reasons."
Kid remained silent, allowing you to continue. "When I first joined the academy, I was anxious." You finally admitted.
"I knew I had to keep my identity a secret, especially knowing your father's history with witches."
Your fingers tightened together. "And when Medusa was exposed, everyone turned against her. You..saw what happened and I didn't want the same thing happening to me."
Kid's expression softened, the spark in his eyes returning little by little.
"Well, you're not Medusa. Her situation was different." He took a small step closer.
"You weren't planning to betray my father or the school." His voice became gentler. "In addition, if my father knew about and accepted you then.. I would've done the same."
You looked at him. "You heard what people said when Kim was found out, right?"
Kid nodded slowly. "Again, her situation was different. She enrolled under a false identity and deliberately lied to my father. You didn't do that."
He paused, his gaze unwavering. "Even if people dared to speak ill of you, I would've defended you. I would've stood by your side."
The sincerity in his voice made your chest tighten. "Would you still do that for me?"
There wasn't even a moment of hesitation as his answer came. "Of course." His eyes, carrying the same warmth as the sun outside, settled gently upon yours.
"I wouldn't turn on you, never." Your reflection was faintly visible within his golden irises as his lips slowly curved into a soft smile.
"You know that." His hands reached for yours, carefully taking them into his own before holding them close. The hallway remained quiet around you. After a moment, you finally spoke.
"I'm sorry..for keeping this hidden." The apology was simple but it meant more to him than you realized. Knowing that you acknowledged his feelings rather than dismissing them– eased some of the weight that had settled in his chest over the past few days.
His fingers remained loosely intertwined with yours, his expression gradually softening. Still, Kid couldn't help but feel that perhaps he could take advantage of the situation just a little.
"I'd only forgive you," He began, his voice carrying a faint hint of amusement.
"If you tell me more about yourself, things ..friends are supposed to know."
