is b even mentioned in death note?? is he even a canon character?? i honestly can't remember

i think i have vague recollections of being told that in the manga light canonically writes his name in the death note (don’t know if this is true, as i can’t recall ever seeing that) but even if that is the case that points to no set characterization.

it just hit me as being really weird that we all take labb as hardcore canon when it’s a light novel when i was thinking of the millions and billions of novel spin-offs of shows like btvs my sister used to read that were by different authors but how no one ever in the history of the fandom identified those as canon. they’re like glorified fanfiction
