Is Fox soft? He looks So Soft
collies generally aren’t that soft, roughs are a little softer than smooths, but even they aren’t as soft as other dogs with long double coats. the collie’s standard calls for a harsh outer coat. so i would describe a healthy collie coat as being more smooth or sleek than soft. but he is veerrry nice to touch, his coat is a great sensory feel, with a lot of different textures and coat lengths. the softest part is either his forehead or behind his ears
How high are most smooth collies prey drives?
in general? practically non existent. it will vary slightly from dog to dog/breeder to breeder (millknock for instance has procduced the first collie to get a barn hunt championship!) but they really aren’t known for having significant prey drive. fox, personally, is fine with our cat, my snakes, and feels no need to chase squirrels or toys that are meant to stimulate prey drive.

well i’m not sure what i could tell you about this that a quick google search couldn’t.... but in the usa collies are generally medium energy/drive, sensitive, loud mouths. affectionate with their families, aloof with strangers, good guard dogs without aggressive or protective tendencies.

Thank You! It just seemed like a lot of the information I was finding was dated feeling (if that makes sense??) Like the same stuff had just been copy and pastes since the beginnings of the internet.
XD haha ok yeah i can understand that, the collie community is pretty old school. the collie club of america still has good accurate information about the breed and links to the collie health foundation and is a good source for collie information, tho i can understand wanting a first hand account from an owner :) feel free to keep asking questions if theres anything more specific you want information about, sorry for shutting you down a bit in the original ask it wasn’t my intention, and i don’t want you to feel discouraged for wanting to know more about the breed.

Obie is a v jealous boy and often I can motivate him by showing him how much Bandit loves something. For example, Obie was hesitant about chasing plastic on our lunge whip until he saw how much Bandit wanted and loved it. Suddenly, Obie needed to have it too!
