Dec 11 is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 in the U.S., and imo the chaRActer that best typifies the essence of the day is Francis Dolarhyde from Hannibal. To convey Dolarhyde's self-loathing and need to torture his body, Richard employed the Japanese performance art Butoh as well as stress positions he'd worked with on The Crucible. Using these techniques, he contorted his body into the extreme, grotesque movements seen early in s3e8 of the show. "I put a metronome on in the room," Rich said, "and just worked for 20 to 30 minutes, distorting my body and doing these exercises, and the crew just kept on filming." 😬🤕
