Ofference (Short Story)
Ch. 1
Once there was a lonely god.
She hemmed and hawed and pitied Her loneliness.
One day, the god decided to take matters into Her own hands.
So the god created two worlds with a spark of Her sun's own power.
And She was happy.Ā
Ch. 2
To protect Her newfound creation, the lonely god created seeds of godhood.
But the seedlings got too wrapped up in their own quarrels.
And so She was once again alone.Ā
Ch. 3
The lonely god looked into the future of Her creation.
Only to find parts that even She could not yet grasp.
And she saw powers beyond her pale.
And so the lonely god feared for the future of Her creation.Ā
Ch. 4
The lonely god went to speak with the only other god she knew.
Just as the lonely god, this one had Her own creation too.
However, the other god didn't have much advice to share.
For gods, the two were novices, this pair.
And so, for not the first nor last time, alone was Blair.Ā
Ch. 5
Disaster strikes.
Humanity cannot hope to fight it off, not even with all its might.
So Blair entered the brawl.
Only to find she couldn't fight this threat. Not at all.Ā
Ch. 6
And so She took one of the Good seedlings and fashioned Her into a god.
Long since had She disposed of the quarreling seedlings.
And She wrought new seedlings from the detritus of the brawl.
Humanity's only hope.
But at least Blair wasn't lonely.Ā
Ch. 7
The Good seedling had to dispose of everything She loved.
For Balance was shackles disguised as power.
And no one remembered her.
And the Good seedling was lonely.Ā
Ch. 8
Now sprout the new seedlings.
Who wither and from the ashes are new seedlings birthed. They have each other.
And the new seedlings arenāt lonely.Ā
Ch. 9
Two withered seedlings refuse to die.
One seedling is split, and from her ashes, two new ones are born.
The withered ones swore retribution on the ones who rose from Hers ashes.
And Blair was angry.
