Countdown to test day

Many seniors are preparing to take the ACT one final time. Here are a few tips:

- Review any math formulas and grammar rules that you know you need to have memorized. Do you know your comma and semicolon rules? Do you know SOHCAHTOA and all of your triangle formulas?

- Look back over old practice test sections. Are there any patterns to the mistakes that you made? Are there any concepts that you need to learn or review?

- Are you stuck with pacing for reading or science? Focus on finding the information the question is asking for in as quick and efficient a manner as possible.

- It’s not too late for one final practice test, if necessary (as long as you take it this weekend). Make sure you review the questions that you missed.

If you are taking the December SAT this weekend, focus on reviewing your old practice test sections. Redo questions you missed and make sure you understand why the correct answer is correct and why the other answers are wrong. There’s less of a need to memorize formulas for math, but you should still review your grammar rules! You can also do a few questions on Khan Academy to keep your mind sharp.

Happy Thanksgiving (and take a practice test)

If you are taking the December SAT or ACT, this is a great time--in between bites of turkey and cranberries--to do a full-length practice test. Take advantage of your time off of school--consider sitting down on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday morning for a full length test so that you can target areas that need some more work in your final week or two of preparation. Then go enjoy some leftovers.

I'm going to rant on the ACT for a couple of seconds

spoiler alert: it fucking sucked

The English test was okay I think it was definitely one of my best tests and I actually feel pretty confident about it but right at the end when I finished it before the timer rang my stomach growled so loud and all I had brought with me was gum and a water because I thought eating would make me sicker to my stomach but I'm definitely not making that mistake again. 

So the entire time I was taking the math test I kept freaking out about wanting my stomach to shut the fuck up because honestly my stomach had to choose today of all days to be a hungry piece of shit. Not to mention I only got to question 17 of the math part before I had to start guessing because I haven't even taken algebra 2 with trig yet and I haven't had a math class in a year so the math sucked ass I'll be surprised if I get higher than a 15 on it.

During the break I chugged down my water like an idiot hoping it would keep my stomach at bay and it did for the reading part, which was okay, but when I got to the science test I had to pee really, really badly and my stomach was back to making me miserable. And fuck that science test by the way it didn't even make sense. 

I think we were supposed to get a break before the writing part but we didn't which meant I had to write my essay while trying to hold my bladder and thank god my stomach finally calmed the fuck down because I was one more little rumble away from losing my shit. I actually liked the prompt because it was easy to write about and we ended up getting out an hour earlier than I thought we would.

I didn't do anywhere near as good on the test as I wanted to like I can tell my score isn't going to be as high as I would like it to but I have to keep in mind that I didn't study at all for this one because I just wanted to familiarize myself with the test and the procedures, I still have a total of 6 more tries available before december of next year, and the math and science were just abnormally hard.

But seriously fuck the science portion.

So I took the ACT for the first time ever today. It wasn't bad at all. I have the worst time management though.

The English, Reading and Writing section was easy as fuck. My hands were hurting while writing the essay and how the fuck was I suppose to read so many passages in 35 minutes though? Math section was easy at first but became harder but I was decent though 60 minutes for 60 questions was bullshit. The Science section was easier than I thought. I hope my composite score over 28.

I'm probably gonna register for the SAT again in December just in case I don't get my ideal score for November. Also, I have to take the ACT next month.
