Hi! Maybe you can answer a question I have about gymnasts at universities and such. On the Universiade website Larisa's school is "National University of Physical Education and Sports." Many of the gymnasts at Universiade are listed at similarly-named schools, particularly the Russians. What does this mean? I don't think Lari (or the Russians) is attending university, being a full-time national team gymnast, so what exactly is a Sport Academy or whatever?
Hey! Well, getting a degree from the University of Physical Education and Sports(it’s UNEFS in Bucharest, and I’m gonna use that cause it’s shorter) basically qualifies you to be a PE teacher, a coach, or a kinetotherapy professional, depending on your specialization. Now, I don’t know if you necessarily need a UNEFS degree to become a gymnastics coach, but I think most coaches have that, and it helps you get a bigger salary, as most higher education degrees do. I assume most gymnasts go to UNEFS bc it’s easier for them, they already know lots in the field, especially if they go there to become gymnastics coaches, so I assume they don’t necessarily have to attend every single class since they don’t have to be taught everything from scracth. Also, UNEFS, as a lot of Universities here, has a low attendance class/program (idk the English name for it, sorry), so they might do that, like study on their own without having to go there daily, or if they do go, they go for a few big classes, and then just take the exams with everyone else. I don’t know what the deal is in Russia, but I think it’s a pretty similar situation. Hope that helps!
