We know its not ALL men, but we don't know WHICH men, so we'll remain wary of ALL men, because we're not psychic.
I know its not all men, I'm married to a good one, I've brought up two nice kind young men who have been taught to respect women, but they've also been taught to respect everybody.
I work with some lovely guys, gentlemen worthy of the title, there are great husbands and dads and uncles in that number. I know the world has good men. I have plenty of decent men I call friends.
BUT I'm still not psychic, and while I appreciate when a man comes out and says "hey, that's not me," the bottom line is, women have no way of knowing what you're like. They see you, and they don't know. So act like you're a good one, continue to hold the door, give up your seat, be kind, be non-threatening, just don't be offended if we don't want your help when we don't know you from Adam.
If you wonder why we are wary, in the UK in 2009, stats showed us that a man killed a woman every three days. Its now 2021 and the stats are the same.
The disappearance of Sarah Everard has led to a conversation about the violence faced by women.
This bears reading as does the following Femicide Report. They've been collecting data over the last decade, and it doesn't make easy reading. You wonder why we're pissed off?
However, I am not going to condemn the ordinary police officers out there either. This is a damning indictment from someone on the front line. They way our government, our lawmakers, treat those who are trying to do their job is shameful; police, healthcare workers, firemen. Something needs to change, we need to stop accepting bad behaviour, whatever form it takes.
A police officer wrote this on March 15, 2021 at 5:27 pm. I’ve reproduced it here because I found it humbling, worrying and really quite fri
I have friends in the police, and friends who left it for similar reasons. At present, this is not a country where decent people are treated fairly.
