Nesting - 12/17/2006
Courtesy of Decoder Ring:
The third print from the Decoder Ring Art Print Series is by Aaron Horkey of Burlesque of North America. Aaron was joined by Burlesque partner Wes Winship to pull this beauty off and a whopping 21 screens were used to do it.
This project is a collaborative effort between DRDC and a select group of nationally acclaimed designers, artists and creative thinkers. Each Print Series artist spends a week in the Decoder Ring Design Concern studio creating original art that is translated to a limited edition fine art serigraph.
Each print is a limited edition of 100, with only 80 available to the public. All prints are signed, numbered and embossed.
Commentary
Nesting is likely the most sought after print in the entire Aaron Horkey catalogue. The print was produced in a low edition, released at a high initial price, and required a painstaking 21 screens to produce. Without ties to a specific band or film and with fewer fantasy elements than most of Aaron's prints, the image has widespread appeal to go along with Aaron's remarkable linework and Wes' masterful printing. Since release, the print has become increasingly difficult to track down in the aftermarket.
Those with sharp eyes will notice that the copy depicted here has a slight registration issue in one of the red layers (look at the edge of the red ink layer and how it doesn't quite match up with everything else in the image). It's really only visible when extremely close, but is an interesting example of the challenges of screen printing an image this complex.
