One Reason For Many Dangerous Diseases in Men
Researchers from the US, representing the University of Michigan, came to the conclusion that the development of a whole bouquet of chronic diseases is associated with inadequate production of the hormone testosterone. Deficiency of this hormone is found in 22% of young people, 36% of middle-aged people and 35% of elderly people, scientists noted at the same time.
Scientists have analyzed the medical history of several thousand Americans from three age groups (young, mature and elderly). Researchers were interested in the susceptibility of people to diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart attack, depression. It turned out that in terms of risk of getting any of these dangerous disorders the most vulnerable are those who have low levels of testosterone in the body.
"We studied cases of multimorbidity - the presence of two or more chronic diseases in volunteers. It turned out that the low testosterone in the blood leads to multimorbidity in the representatives of the stronger sex of all ages, "the authors of the project said.
Researchers stated that the deficiency of the "male" hormone is more common than it was thought up to now. Lack of testosterone may also affect the behavior of men, making them nervous, fussy, prone to frequent bouts of a bad mood. Testosterone deficiency (Hypogonadism), according to scientists, is often associated with inadequate physical activity and obesity.
If the weight of a man is 30% higher than normal, his endocrine system begins to increase the production of the "female" hormone estrogen. Hence - an increased capriciousness, resentment, as well as changes in the figure, which gradually takes a more feminine outline. Also, a decrease in testosterone production in the body is promoted by alcohol abuse, chronic prostatitis, the intake of certain medicines, vegetarianism and a diet with insufficient levels of fat.
"Men need to regularly measure testosterone levels. Many of them are not aware of the risk factors that they face the lack of testosterone. Reducing the level of this hormone often occurs completely unnoticed, leading to a smooth deterioration of health in general, and an increased risk of chronic diseases, "the researchers noted, adding that you can increase the level of the hormone with help physical exertion.
