CHARACTER SOLIDIFYING!
1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have?
Eva had a very close relationship with her father. Although he wasn’t there in her life 24/7 (mainly to ensure her protection and so Damon (or Stefan) didn’t turn up while she was with him), Zach was devoted to helping raising Eva. Their bond grew considerably even more so after Amanda’s death, with Eva almost “clinging” to Zach as he was the only parent she had left and (to her belief) the only family she had left.
Eva often found Zach as someone who understood her. He was quite quiet and reserved, just like herself, and she also found that he was able to read her without her having to say a word about what she was thinking or feeling. It was overall a very comfortable setting for Eva to be in. Even moments in which they both sat down in silence and read where events which Eva cherished.
She also enjoyed cooking with her father. Zach actually taught Eva a lot of the cooking skills that she excels in today. Because they both cooked regularly, Zach and Eva barely went out and had dinner. The only times they had dinner out was during special occasions or if they were invited to have dinner with someone else.
Overall, Zach had a very positive influence on Eva growing up as even after his death, Eva has almost made it her life’s mission to take down the man responsible for killing her father, even going as far as considering killing Damon’s mother in front of her so he could feel the pain that she felt when he killed Zach.
5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?
Although Eva couldn’t tell, she was extremely overprotected as a child. Zach felt extremely overprotective over Eva because of Damon. He knew that if Damon was to ever find out about Eva then it was only a matter of time before he either killed her or turned her. Technically, he favoured Stefan more so than Damon, but he still wanted to keep Eva safe from Stefan in case Damon followed Stefan and ended up discovering Eva. Amanda on the other hand basically spent her entire life hunting and killing vampires. She knew exactly what went “bump” in the night and what was capable of hurting her daughter.
To protect Eva, both Zach and Amanda constantly drugged Eva’s drinks with vervain, although technically that wouldn’t have made much of a difference due to her unusual vervain laced blood. At times, Zach even got paranoid when Eva returned home slightly later than usual. Although both Zach and Amanda were extremely overprotective over Eva, it wasn’t done so in a way that Eva felt “sheltered”.
Personally, she felt as though she had a very normal upbringing. Her parents “neurotic” beheavior was something that Eva picked up as simply “parents being parents”. She had no idea vampires existed at the time, or that she had two vampire uncles, one of which was very unstable and dangerous, so she had no idea that was the reason for why her parents were very protective over her.
16. What does your character do for a living? How do they see their profession? What do they like about it? Dislike?
Eva is currently in culinary school as she is working to be a chef. Ever since she could remember, Eva loved food and cooking. It was a talent she had inherited from her father, who also loved cooking to. Growing up, Zach taught Eva almost everything he knew, even causing Eva to surprise Zach on more than one occasion with her cooking skills. Eva sees her profession as basically a hobby.
She isn’t going to culinary school for the sake of getting a job. She’s going there because she loves cooking. Food and cooking is her passion. She’s basically working her dream job by getting paid to cook.
There’s hardly anything Eva dislikes about cooking. She finds it to be a very pleasant experience, even calming at times. During stressful times, Eva can be found cooking as she likes keeping her hands and mind busy as to distract herself from the stressful thoughts clouding her mind.
