She trembles, teacup threatening to spill its contents all over her dress. She hasn't had word from Dedan since she sent the last letter, which had been at least five days ago. Had he been disappointed in her for not saying so earlier? Had she, perhaps, made a mistake in confessing to him? Did he not feel the same way at all?
That was probably it. She had told him of her innermost secret, thinking he shared her feelings, yet what he felt for her was purely platonic.
Putting her cup down, she felt her eyes fill with tears. What a fool she'd been.
