Ten years ago i asked some friends if they wanted to make a short film. I had a story that I’d been working on. We raised the money. Most of it from my hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana and the rest from the state. We put together a crew. Mostly kids just out of the Ringling College of Art. It was a very ambitious short. It took two years. We were only guessing we could pull it off. I’d never directed animation. None of us had done anything like this. Each day was an adventure, an act of collective creative faith. A room full of dedicated dreamers trying to tell a story on a wing and a prayer. Our short film had a longish name “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore”. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rewarded our dream with a little golden man they call Oscar. That was 8 years ago. Our crew was back in Shreveport watching the show from my brother in law’s restaurant inside an old gas station. For most of them our short film was their first job. There are moments in life when words do actually fail and the only effective response is to fill your lungs to bursting and then scream with joy till you can longer. Winning an Oscar is one of them. I highly recommend it. . . #oscars #animatedshort #animation #ringlingcollege #dedicateddreamers #wingandprayer https://www.instagram.com/p/B8WGwYhln3P/?igshid=1pbi0bda8h2da
