Punk’s not dead (unfortunately) for Dee Dee Ramone, obviously in distress during a ‘Brain Drain” signing at San Diego, June 22, 1989, just a few months before finally leaving the Ramones.

By that time his personal life, as well as his career had come to a crossroads: completely fed up with playing with the Ramones -”I was also sick and tired of the little boy look, bowl haircut and the motorcycle jacket. And really, four middle-aged men trying to be teenage juvenile delinquents is ridiculous” he told Legs McNeil later that year- he attempted to turn into a rapper as Dee Dee King and and it was only some months before that he had actually released a solo rap album, widely considered to be one of the biggest failures in recording history in hindsight, so one can imagine the pain of having to return to his Ramones image and a career he thought he had ended.
