Now that Season 2 of Fallout has concluded, what is your overall opinion of the TV show thusfar?
putting my thoughts below in case of spoilers 👇
overall? it’s fine- i think it’s pretty fun but that’s about the most it does for me.
i don’t feel particularly strongly about it but i also don’t hate it. as an adaptation i think it does its job fine, the sets, costuming and casting are a huge highlight. but it really struggles the most with tone and pacing- the humor has bugged me since season 1, season 2 seemed to at least find more of its own voice, but it was packing wayyy too much in plot-wise. i think this show could really do with a couple more episodes per-season or at the very least narrow down its focus some more.
as far as its plot goes i’ve been coming at it like i do comic books, where you go into it expecting pre-established canon/lore that’s core to its identity, but changes and new ideas/concepts are to be expected. i’ve never been a huge stickler on canon anyways, especially for fallout when there’s as much content as is, and future plans for it— along with the fact you as the player have some say in how things turn out in the games. i have rewritten bits of fallout 4 in my head to my liking, i’ve made characters who operate outside of pre-established canon- that’s part of the fun of it to me, so the plot and its effect on a future game is whatever to me. i don’t have to think of it as canon- i’m probably gonna be 40 by the time fallout 5 releases anyways so i don’t really care what all this means for another title 😭 the irony that it’s being produced by amazon is also not lost on me, so some of the messaging rings a little hollow at times— and this isn’t to moral grandstand about that, i’m literally watching it off my parents account lmfao, but it is knowledge that does impact some of what’s being said by the show for me. honestly tho i feel like some of its core messaging/identity has been going by the wayside for a long time now anyways.
TLDR: the show basically met what i expected of it.
