Inspired by my friend Dee's summary of the evening: Walk The Moon- A Day Never To Be Forgotten
The day of the Walk The Moon concert started for me at 6:30 am when I had to drag myself out of bed to get to school. The whole day I was completely unfocused due to the fact that my plans for later in the day were in every way more fabulous than learning about the Progressive Era or Significant Figures in math. By the time the school day ended I was literally bolting out of the building. I met up with my friends Amanda and Shannon and we got in Shannon's car and drove to the train station. Amanda and myself took the train into Philly and made our way to the TLA. When we got off the train however, we were punched in the face with how bitterly cold and windy it was in Philadelphia that day. Both of us only wearing hoodies because we couldn't be bothered to wear jackets, shivered our way to South Street where we dove into Starbucks to get away from the frigid weather.
We both got our drinks and then decided to go check out the line in the alley next to the venue. When we arrived we found the alley way completely empty and we asked the box office person to make sure we were actually in the right spot. We then decided to go back into Starbucks because neither of us were really fit to be standing outside with no actual defense against the cold. We stayed in there until about 3:30 and then decided it would be a good idea to face the cold and go back outside to secure our spot in line.
When we got back to the alley two girls were standing there decked out in winter jackets, hats, gloves, and blankets (clearly more prepared for the weather than us). They were also wearing Walk The Moons trademark war paint on their faces and we're clearly big fans. Being the exceptionally gay and talkative person I am, I started talking to them and learned that they were also from Jersey and were sisters. Dee and Paula. They noticed that we were incredibly under dressed for the weather and graciously shared their blankets with us. The four of us sat huddled on the curb next to the TLA for hours and saw most of the members of Walk The Moon walk past us.
As more time passed, more fans started showing up and eventually there was a pretty decent sized crowd of people behind us. Around 5:30 these obnoxious middle-schoolers started screaming and fighting in the alley next to us and the people that lived in the apartments above called the police and the security guards came and told us we had to leave and come back at 6:30. Not really wanting to leave the area, the group of us piled into Steaks on South, a pizza place right next to the alley, and ate dinner. While inside, Amanda and I got Paula to do our war paint for us and she did an amazing job. The people that worked there were so nice to us and told us that we could stay as long as we wanted.
Exactly at 6:30, we all rushed out of the pizza place and got right back in line. This was the home stretch for us before we got in to the venue. Unfortunately for me and Amanda, we did not get the Live Nation Express ticket while all of our new friends did. This left her and I as the first people in line for the regular tickets while everyone else went inside. Finally, the security guard came back and let the people with regular tickets in. Me and Amanda bolted straight to the front and we were actually only two rows behind Paula and Dee. Sadly, me and Amanda got separated due to annoying people who like to shove and she was way behind me even before the opening act went on. She texted me during their set and told me that she got fed up and went all the way to the back but had a really good view. While I was up front I met this girl Sara who is majorly awesome. We stood there and made fun of the drunk people around us who thought that they were cool. In between sets, people were throwing glow sticks around the crowd and I caught like three of them. I decided that it worked with the Walk The Moon theme so I tied the glow sticks into my hair with a hair tie and made them point up making me look like a unicorn.
Then it got to the best part of the evening. Walk The Moon came on and it was the most amazing thing ever. The energy of the crowd, their amazing music, and my excitement to finally be seeing them all collided together to make one of the best nights ever. Paula and Dee through light up balloons into the audience and everyone had a lot of fun bouncing them around for a lot of the show. Walk The Moon was so amazing and it was so much fun dancing and singing all night to their music.
When the show ended and people were leaving I made my way up to the front to say good bye to everyone that I had been hanging out with before the show and then I met up with Amanda again. We fought our way out of the venue and made our way across the street to Starbucks once again. After, we waited for Amanda's mom to get there to drive us home and once I got dropped off at my house I went up stairs, washed the paint off my face, and fell into bed. My ears were still ringing from the show and was still so hype from having so much fun that night but eventually I fell asleep and ended one of the best concert days I've ever experienced.
