White Lung - Deep Fantasy
I mentioned in my review of The Coral’s 2002 self-titled debut album that I don’t tend to pick up super random albums anymore, whether it’s because they’re the hot commodity of the time, or because I’m even slightly curious. I do that every now and again, especially if I can find something cheap enough. I typically won’t spend more than $7 on a used CD, but I have spent a bit on a few, although I’ll give something a chance if it’s really cheap. I’ve found some utter heaters while looking in the clearance section at Half Price Books, or at Goodwill, but I buy stuff a lot online as well.
Online is the best way to find stuff, and I have a few eBay stores that I frequent to see if I can find some good deals. I have a few eBay stores that I find stuff on, and they have sales going all the time where it’s either buy two, get one free, or buy four or more and get 64% off. I ended up finding a copy of White Lung’s third album, 2014’s Deep Fantasy, on eBay and I was super curious about it. Their name is vaguely familiar, but I saw that they were a punk band, so I thought I’d pick it up. For being only 22 minutes, this is a super short album, so even if I didn’t care for it, at least it’s a short one.
Thankfully, this album is actually pretty cool, because it’s a short burst of punk, thrash, and hardcore, but it’s pretty cool. I think this album has the issue of being too short, and because of that, the album goes by way too fast with how much it has going on. It’s the opposite of the issues I mostly have, where albums are too long for their own good, but this is too short and doesn’t have enough time to really leave an impression. At least enough of an impression, anyway. I really like it, though, especially the vocals and lyrics reminding me a lot of 90s riot grrrl and hardcore punk, but this album has way too much going on for me to really sink my teeth into it.
