I already turned off my PC so I'm writing this down on my phone and will upload it tomorrow.
Today morning I was waiting outside the yoga studio because it was quite early. I looked around, then looked up to the sky and saw the moon. And I thought, how crazy is that, no? That there is an actual, tangible floating mass of rocky land just standing there so close to us. It's not close enough for everyone to go there regularly, but it's been proved that going there is possible. I thought about the first human beings that became aware of it. It makes sense that they saw the natural world as deities; without science, without schooling, I think we'd see them that way too. It feels strange to look deeply into the moon as if you were seeing it for the first time. Or, at least, the first time in a long, long time. That's the child's eye. You observe things as they are, as you experience them right now, no preconceptions, no judgement. And something lights up inside you. I'm not sure what it is, but you feel more alive if you apply this child's gaze in your daily life. You can look at your coffee, at your phone, at some flowers or into a loved one's eye. Everything feels more real.
Mindful Consumption
In order to shift our patterns of consumption from a non-mindful state to a mindful state, we need a great deal of support. Part of that support can be engendered by an awareness of the consequences of our consumption, yet we also need the support of friends, family and sangha, so that a shift from meat eating to vegetarianism, from cooked food to raw food can be effected.
