teddy kingsley and naomi birch were no strangers to spotlight, a two-time academy award winning director and acclaimed singer-turned-actress-turned-author, but they knew from the beginning that they wanted their life together to be as private as possible. they didn’t have the star-studded wedding, didn’t even publicize their first pregnancy, and quickly moved from LA to Colorado with their growing bunch of kids. they didn’t want stardom or media attention for their kids - not with what they dealt with.
sumter grew up in relative obscurity, much like any other kid - just, you know, much richer. the kingsley-birch family summered in the hamptons, went on play dates with other celebrity kids, went to fancy private schools and all of the things other celebrity kids did, it’s just that they didn’t get auditioned for movies or shoved into dance lessons as soon as they could walk.
his parents never wanted him to be an actor, but he didn’t see anything else happening for him. he tried everything, even did two semesters of college on the east coast, but nothing clicked. he did his due diligence, so his parents let him audition for projects with minimal heckling and he started to do decently well for himself, scoring a huge blockbuster film after just a few indie movies.
his parents’ anti-media sentiments never left him, though, and he became known for flipping off or cursing at paps that would heckle him about this or that. this the bad boy image was born, despite the fact that he’s only bad in the sense that he’s sort of an asshole and mistrusts the government more than the average american lmao
sumter’s aggressively anti-anything that makes other people happy tbh. kind of a spoil sport, incredibly possessive of everything and everyone he considers to be “his”, competitive to a fault and prone to starting fights for no reason. on the other hand, he’s disciplined and really passionate about what he does, puts his whole heart into everything he involves himself with. he’s not genuinely mean spirited but rather just really bitter and angsty and feels like he’s ~*~at odds with the world~*~ even tho he does it to himself!!!
