Banned and Broken

Climbing down the fire escape to the side of their big building came to be the one thing Klaus looked forward too, sneaking out and crossing the street to spend time with his girlfriend. Roma was great, she always knew the right things to say to comfort Klaus, reassure him though really she didn’t understand, she always did her absolute best to make him feel better. Klaus had told her about his powers, about his sibling’s powers too, but he never went too in depth into the real abuse they suffered at the hands of their father, he didn’t want her pity, he didn’t want to ruin a good thing.
Klaus had snuck out of the house and sunrise and spent the entire day across the street with her, coming back in as the sun began to go down. He had missed a full days training and lessons and his father wasn’t happy, though actually, much to Klaus’ surprise, nothing was mentioned. Klaus retreated back to his bedroom.
Reginald wasn’t happy and so he sent Number One up to Number Four’s bedroom to find out what on Earth he’d been doing all day. Much to Luther’s ease, Klaus was chatting away inside, seemingly to himself, though Klaus could see the spirit of a dead child, just older than him, one he’d managed to befriend. He was chatting about where he had been all day, about Roma, all the things he liked about her. He was love struck to say the least. Luther instantly reported that to his father.
In the following days, Klaus received his punishments, which completely broke him. It began with him being banned from leaving the house, the exits he could use blocked, the threat of punishing his siblings too if he tried to leave prevented him. After that, Klaus was thrown into the mausoleum for the first time for the night and came back just the shell of the boy he used to be, the ghosts were worse, scarier, no possible way to befriend them now. They were tortured, just like him. After his night in there, Klaus didn’t sleep, he went days and nights without a single moment sleep, even if he tried he couldn’t, he was exhausted and that’s when Reginald made Grace, the adult he trusted, give him some heavy sedatives. Each time they’d knock him out for maybe twelve hours, when he woke he’d be thrown into the mausoleum, take some lessons and repeat. It wasn’t a life he wanted to live and the fact he had no way of contacting Roma destroyed him. This went on for maybe a year, not letting him leave the house other than for missions, punishments and lessons until one day, Klaus took the risk and escaped. He ran away. He didn’t go across the street, he’d get caught there so he ran and ran, nothing but the clothes on his back to survive with. Reginald always thought he’d come back, but he never did.
