Asteroids and the Moon are going to make up the majority of the resources used in #oniellcylinder construction. They are conveniently outside of major gravity wells, contain all the major elements used in construction with the exception of maybe nitrogen, they can be somewhat easily manoeuvred into position or parked in Lagrange points such as those already around Jupiter, they can be used as radiation shielding and they are in such quantity in our solar system that we will be able to build many earth's of land area as you can see by the last image. There are currently 1.9 billion known asteroids larger than a km in diameter in the asteroid belt and that's not including the kuiper belt or the Oort cloud which are both larger and contain larger asteroids . Steps in using asteroids for construction will include initial prospecting to check for desired elements, deconstruction at a mobile refinery or movement to a stationary refinery, refinement and processing into raw material, assembly into modular station pieces or into goods used on OC's. . Asteroids are classified into three major groups: c-type which are the most common and are carbon rich, s-type which tend to be less common but stony and contain silicates, and m-type which to tend to be rarer but dense with metals. Various asteroid mining companies currently exist such as #ispace #planetaryresources #deepspaceindustries #kleosspace #asteroidminingcompanyukltd and many other new #startups Currently they are after m-class asteroids with platinum group metals as they are worth the most but with the current high supply from earth and expensive launch costs asteroid mining is not economically viable. . . . #spacehabitat #spacestation #spaceistheplace #spacetravel #sciencefiction #scifi #scifiart #space #asteroid #asteroidmining #elitedangerous #wearegoing #accelerando (at Asteroid belt) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxzYTqyhq_J/?igshid=txvuhf0pxweb
