I’ve been thinking about that deer breeding post
I can see if you are a vegan this all seems increadibly inhumane but here’s the thing, it’s not. This is not a cattle farm or chicken house or puppymill. These deer are raised free-range and bred for better meats and antlers. Being bred to be hunted sounds horrible but these bucks are not going to slaughter houses where they would be killed in ineffective ways and where they would be scared, they are going to hunting preserves.
Hunting preserves are huge plots of land that fight against land development and desruction of natural habitats. They are a refuge to many types of wildlife. The preserves offer hunting seasons to maintain and control their populations so population control is still an “excuse” for hunting. Hunting in preserves can offer benifits like staff that will clean the dear after the kill and lodging. These places are great for people with disabilities or the elderly that like the sport of hunting but are unable to do so the traditional way. It is also a cop-out way for able-bodies hunters to catch a really nice deer with minimal effort but that’s a debate for the hunting community.
Hunting is fairly humane. Competent hunters can kill a buck with one shot which is better than most slaughterhouse methods. Hunters make sure to use the whole deer. These deer are not just trophies they are a large source of meat that can feed a family for months, their hide can make leather or blankets and the antlers can be used as trophies, tools, decoration, suppliments, etc.
My Main point is that these deer are raised on a farm just like cattle and the farm does not deserve this large outcry against it.
