haha.. right, so i did this thing.. i made a nara shikamaru blog (that is still very under construction as i have no icons or my verses planned out ooor a promo, but there’s guidelines--) so... if anyone would like to follow me there, it is @deerintelect.

shikamaru is so genuine and i love how he interacted with naruto didn’t reat him as something wrong or different or horrible but just. himself. like they were both losers but he didn’t think of him as a loser bc of the tailed beast but just bc naruto is naruto

and naruto really appreciates shikamaru like he feels really comfortable around him and shikamaru gets so jokey and friendly when naruto is around like ??? naruto inspired shikamaru in so many ways ???

they both mourn the loss of their masters together and when they’re older they probably get a drink together or something in remebrance and they just , chill 

shikamaru doesn’t even bother to teach naruto shogi bc naruto just does whatever the fuck he wants and his playing style is so chaotic shikamaru cna’t asdlkfjasdlfsadf

but they’re so COMFORTABLE they really are and there’s a reason naruto picks shikamaru outta everyone to be his assistant / attendant when he’s hokage because he fundamentally and wholeheartedly trusts in shikamaru’s’ genius , his competency , his ability to see the bigger picture and also the minute details and that’s something naruto envies and wants to strengthen 

they’re just REALLY COMFORTABLE IMA SAY IT AGAIN THEYRE SO CHILL AND I WANT MORE . . . of their friendship i . . .

Only offering him a brief glance before stretching both arms, allowing her shoulders to roll. “Hmm, it’s okay if you want to go back to sleep, I really DON’T mind keeping watch. “

                    “Do you think I am an idiot?”

          It’s an earnest question: There’s no aggression in his words.  Lee’s eyes are wide and honest, brows raised slightly to show his interest in Shikamaru’s opinion.  It’s a bit bold to ask— Definitely putting Shikamaru on the spot— But it was a question Lee was desperate for an answer to.  He needed the ‘OK’ from the smartest man in the village that he was not an idiot.  

          Because his actions that proved his intelligence were ignored.

          In his several months of being hospital staff, very few valued his opinion and work. Familiar with his brash behavior and loud mouth ( and poor academy scores way back in the day ), coworkers didn’t see him as fit for his job, despite earning his place. On the battlefield, Lee was confident in his abilities even if no one else was— Always had been.  However, the medical field was new territory. He felt as though needed the support of others to prove his worth.  What better support than the smartest of the smartest?

                    “Please be honest.  My coworkers do not think I am smart, and I want to know if it is true.”
