There was something oddly poetic about the Order seeking refuge and shelter, rebuilding in a castle somewhere in Scotland. It was almost some strange cosmic bullshit meant to inspire - or, more likely, rub in their faces how truly fucked and not safe they actually were. Because, really, what good would all of it do? Even a castle as illustrious and well-guarded as Hogwarts likely wasn’t truly safe; nowhere was, not now.

But, for some reason, there were those determined to make the shoddy place less so, no matter how wasteful a task Sirius thought it was. He highly doubted new curtains would raise morale. Unless, of course, they were some sort of bloody magical happiness curtains, ready to fix the whole buggering world! Sirius snorted at himself, half-amused, but it quickly faded, his features rearranging themselves back into his usual-of-late brooding frown.

He knew that he had no right to complain, though. The mess was his own, constructed with bloodied hands and blind ambition woven alongside reckless abandon. He had played a role in the Ministry take-down - however unwitting - and he’d yet to own up to it, to admit his guilt by association. How could he? To unveil his covert allegiance would destroy friendships, relationships, and Sirius couldn’t stand the thought of that. He couldn’t lose people over Aversio; part of him knew it was inevitable.

Sirius sighed, running a hand through dark hair, as he turned a corner and nearly ran right into Lily. His shoulders tensed, back stiffened, before he let out a huff of a laugh and reached out to clap a hand to her shoulder. “Bloody hell, you scared me,” he admitted, shaking his head. There’d been little time for casual socialization amidst recent events, and it had gotten to Sirius, dragging him into the dark recesses of his mind that he so wholly loathed. But, seeing Lily before him now, he smiled, strained yet genuine - not quite reaching his eyes. “For a second I thought you were one of Molly’s bloody curtains finally coming to get me.”
