honestly, building my little sets is half the fun

i'm torn between learning how to make my own maps and keeping them forever, or if these ephemeral sets that get ruined or deleted are better (for my creativity and for my computer's memory... >_>)

and, like, naturally these can only exist thanks to like half a dozen mods. i should put together a list maybe (not that anyone's really looking for that, or to me for any kind of advice, but i can try)

i was taking some shots for a tag game about the dream guardian and thought it might be nice to take one of deet and the emperor in that brief period of time when things were nice they were both perhaps a little less lonely

Kammon as the Patron Saint of Houses

This is interesting to me because in another quiz a long time ago, Kammon was the god of home and family or something, and I do associate him with family and finances; so this is an interestingly twisted take on that.

I was wondering what would happen if I took Kammon's qualities and motivations to their (negative) extreme, and I got some sort of ascended, infernal bookkeeper Kammon who serves Asmodeus. All the structure and order and paternalism one might find in a house, anywhere in Faerûn, but feeling nothing like home.

And if you ask me why his wings are like angel's wings I'll say "it was a joke on Asmodeus' part" and not elaborate, but really I just thought that I had succubus wings when I didn't, but I ended up liking these anyway.

Deet as the Patron Saint of Martyrs

Like, I'm not even surprised. The way Deet will open his veins for you—any of you—and just smile through it. The way he'll accept almost any treatment and forgive people far too quickly. It's one of his least charming qualities, imo. I almost expected this one.

This shot is actually why I made these two "saints" in cc at all, because I remembered that I had these beautifully gross bloody Durge scars.

Anyway, here's Deet being the absolute pinnacle of pointless self-sacrifice. I like to think that his relationship with Astarion teaches him how to be more selfish.

What does your Dream Visitor look like, and why?

Deet's Dream Visitor appeared as his (ex?) partner, Kammon Phyrraxus, whose... loss he was still mourning.

The stranger hesitates, then sighs. "I apologize for this deception—but any truer form I could take you could not comprehend and I… needed to speak with you directly." That too-familiar line appears between his brows as he speaks in a voice that reminds Deet more of his own than his partner's. He wonders how much of this is a dream of his own making. "I wondered if this face might be too painful to see but I couldn't risk you turning me away," he confesses, his voice low. "I saw what you went through. Both of you." With the manner of a druid approaching a wounded deer, the stranger reaches for him with Kammon's hands and Deet only steps back at the last moment. It wouldn't feel the same. Wouldn't it, though? Deet looks away from the uncanny sight. The stranger comes no closer. "I know what it's like, to be robbed of your agency—your own mind—you did what you could," he says, gently, and it feels like a balm. "You survived. I meant what I said: you and I are more alike than we are different. We can help each other."

I imagine The Emperor offers to use another face after this, but Deet declines. Whether it's to soothe something in him or torture himself, I'm not sure even he knows.

On a meta level, I usually make the dream guardian someone significant to my character's backstory—where their dream guardian's identity usually leans into something that they are ashamed of, or feel guilty over, that ties into their background and personal journey.

Deet was maybe my third or fourth Tav back in EA (he wasn't even my favorite at the time lol) so I had this particular part of the character development process fairly nailed down by then. Kammon was always his partner who he failed, right from the start (though it wasn't at all romantic until I really dug into their backstories).

There were several people The Emperor could have pulled from Deet's memories who he was likely to implicitly trust, or at least feel compelled to hear them out, but I think Kammon has the most impact. His face is a reminder of Deet's relationship to his patron and it did to Kammon... and maybe of how alone he's felt since then and how badly things can go when he's on his own.

And of course Deet loves him. It was a calculated decision.

The Emperor might have even felt a bit of a sincere connection to this man he's never met, Kammon being transformed and taken thrall by the aboleth similar to the way he was... though they each might be of slightly different minds about their transformations (were you to ask)...

Now that I've been thinking so much about this... I'm looking forward to getting back to my replay of Deet's game (yes, I restarted it over a year ago and no I am still not out of Act 1 ..... >_>'''')
