"Gender is a social construct and drag breaks it down and reconstructs it."
Recently, I was approached by Kaspars Bekeris, a former TV reporter and journalist in his native Latvia, who has spent a good part of the past year photographing and documenting the drag scene in Iceland. While other photographers have focused on the interactions between the artists and the audience, Bekeris has been more interested in telling the story of the relationship between the performers and their art. What follows is my conversation with three of the performers Bekeris documented.”
