Aww i just had my first piss on the poor reading comprehension experience on Tumblr. Someone blocked me for something that i didn't say. Sigh. That doesn't feel great but oh well. Their blog, their experience, i don't mind being blocked, but it feels icky that someone i agreed with blocked me for something i didn't do. Sigh.
I haven't really talked much about politics on Tumblr until now so i guess it's inevitable.
I would say fandom is less contentious than politics but i never talk about what i think of Jiang Cheng for a reason 🤣😇
For the record, i believe the USA has a ridiculous amount of land and resources and we should have open borders and abolish citizenship and just apply our laws equally to whoever lives here and let anyone vote who's been here for, i don't know, I'm open to debate, maybe a year and then they can register to vote? I also think we need to do way better about treaties, land back, etc. with the indigenous people of this land.
I'm profoundly disappointed in both political parties for the lack of citizenship paths for the people in my communities who do not have but want US citizenship. We have so much land. We have so many resources. We're doing a terrible job of sharing our land and resources maybe because so much of it has been commoditized.
These macro scale problems make me furious because i have no power to address them and the person who blocked me is probably feeling the same fury. i do what i can on the micro scale. That's where my tiny little bit of power is. Bleh. Really wish i could do more. Haven't seen collective actions have much effect since Bush took office in 2005. It's up to our elected officials to do better and they haven't. Keep up the pressure.
If you want to learn more, here's a few things I've done along the way that i would like to recommend:
* Read Dear America by Jose Antonio Vargas or check out his show Define American
* Volunteer with citizenship and English language learning / practice organizations in your area (all US citizenship tests are conducted in English, which i didn't know until i started volunteering back in 2005)
* Write to someone in a detention center near you and ask about their experience and send them some commissary money
