To say nothing of the fact that neither of you are even in the correct class for your grade levels..."

Words Jamil longed to hear from someone other than the voice in his own mind; words that sounds so much sweeter from someone else’s lips. You deserve more. He knows he does; it’s the one truth he’s known all his life. Perhaps there were days on which he doubted himself, felt ungrateful for dreaming of another life when he had so many things to be thankful for, but those days are long bygone. Still, after his spectacular failure to rid himself of Kalim sometimes he wonders what the price of freedom really is - and if he’d truly be willing to pay it, given the chance. What if he’s lived a life that belonged to others for so long that the person he is now wouldn’t be capable of living free from them?

   “I do,” Jamil says, curtly. He doesn’t know how to feel about the fact that, of all people, it is Azul Ashengrotto speaking so bluntly about matters so close to his heart. Wasn’t it Azul and his goons who foiled his plan, humiliating him in front of everyone present? Only to return now with inspirational words of support? What a farce. If it weren’t for him, Jamil could have more now, be more now. Instead he is trapped in this in-between space of having lost his face and gained nothing for it except the questionable freedom of telling Kalim to his face that he is insufferable. Was it some kind of lesson Azul wanted him to learn? That perhaps he didn’t risk enough to get what he deserved, but too much to go unpunished?

     “Bold words from the one ruining my efforts to get just that,” Jamil adds coldly.

The touch is so gentle and warm it makes Cater’s skin tingle pleasantly beneath his shirt and for a moment he allows himself to close his eyes and just enjoy it. It’s hard to guess if Trey is really aware of what he’s doing, or if it’s one of his absent-minded big brother reflexes, but either way, it’s nice. Getting comforted like this is rare for Cater and every time he’s lucky enough to get it, he’s ashamed to realize how much he craves it. If only it was easier to ask for it, but as things are he has no choice but to rely on Trey’s irregular ability to sense when he’s in need of closeness that doesn’t come in the form of hook-ups with half-strangers he only knows for a night.

Still, after a few minutes Cater feels a familiar restlessness take hold of him and he knows the time for enjoying in quiet is over. Better not get used to something you can’t really have. He turns to look at Trey, a smile on his features.      “You’re good with your hands, Trey-kun~ any chance I could get you to give me a massage sometime? All that studying and reading is really bad for my back.”
