Made a post a while ago about Hera Tropaia and I used Lycophron as the source:
…he [Theseus] went with the wild beast [Heracles], the Initiate, who drew the milky breast of the hostile goddess Tropaea, and stole the belt and roused a double feud…
though I realized that Tzetzes is the better source for this, since he explains everything Lycophron wrote about:
But 'Deias' is an epithet of Hera; for she was at war with Heracles. 'Tropaia' is also an epithet of Hera, because those who were victorious would dedicate a trophy to her, just as they would to Zeus. Heracles, as a child, was nursed by Hera, which is why he was made immortal. He [Lycophron] called 'Mysten/Mystes' (Initiate) to Heracles, because he was initiated into the lesser mysteries at Eleusis…
“Deias” (δηίας) means hostile, destructive, ruinous, or deadly (especially of a war or battle). So “girlboss,” essentially /lh. I think it’d be fun to interpret it as “she who lays waste [to her enemies].”
Tropaia/Tropaea means “giver of victory,” evidently.
Yeah it’s no wonder Herc turned out Like That after being nursed by the Victorious Goddess of Destruction / Ruinous Goddess of Victory. He never lost a fight and he wrought destruction for anyone he crossed swords with.
