De-Icing in London! ❄️❄️❄️ Winter weather is hitting hard and fast in parts of the country right now. Sub-zero temperatures, snow and ice means that planes have to be de-iced before taking flight, so here's an explainer of aircraft deicing, why it's done, and the the different methods used. The first thing to know about aircraft deicing is why it is done. It's not just to get snow off so that people can see the name of the airline better. In fact, it's not so much snow on the fuselage itself that matters. Planes have "critical areas" which include the wings, horizontal stabilizers, and vertical stabilizer which must be free of contaminants in order to take off safely. A build up of ice or snow on these surfaces not only adds extra weight, but most importantly, it also disrupts the flow of air, which reduces lift. It can also disrupt the movement of the wings' flaps and ailerons. #deicing #deicingtheplane #challenger #london #londonluton #airport #privatejet #jetcharter #businessjet #privateplane #firstjetaviation Request Information: Mailto: [email protected] (at London Luton Airport)
