Original Characters Set Endings: Deidre

1942

buys a new owl

Jarem died when she was 16.

Old-age, starvation, isolation, being locked up in his cage too long; she'd forgotten which one is actually was. The fact remains: he wasn't there for her anymore either.

(Everyone she'd ever loved, gone, gone, gone...)

That was two years ago. She'd stopped grieving him when she turned 17, but hadn't felt fully ready to let him go just yet. (Not just yet, just a little bit longer, please, stay...)

But she was eighteen now. A year above the Wizarding age and the exact Muggle age of what signifies an adult.

So it's basically like she's already an official adult, twice-over. She let Jarem go.

Deidre takes a deep breath, squares her shoulders, and enters the pet shop.

Minutes later, she exits with two armfuls of pet supplies, and a brand new owl on her shoulder, another barn owl like Jarem but female.

As her new owl gently nips at her hair, Deidre can't help but smile.

She hears a familiar sound, a nostalgic sound, of something flying through the air. Flying. Of flying.

She feels herself choke on her own breath, and grips the handle of her broomstick tighter. It's old and worn and halfway balding, sure, but still trustworthy, sturdy. It's what got her to London, after all.

But, like she says, it's old and worn and halfway balding. This broomstick was her very first broomstick. But, like nearly everything in the past, she has to let it go.

But not before one last round of flying.

Deidre kicks off the ground and smiles.

"Watch out!"

Shocked, she ran on adrenaline and instinct, and leaned backward and downward, flipping herself and her broom like a coin, as something zoomed past above her.

Flipping herself upright again, she blinks at the sudden rush of blood to her head (realizes she hasn't done that in years; weird) and barely catches the rest of what the stranger says:

"-with me?"

Dei looks over, and blinks again. "Um...?"

A laugh, "I said, d'you wanna play Quidditch with me? One-on-one."

A woman in her early twenties is sitting upright on a broomstick, shoulders straight but relaxed, no hands on the handle but instead spinning a Quaffle between them.

Confident; has definitely played Quidditch before.

There's a twinkle in the woman's eye that Deidre doesn't know how to interpret, but maybe it was interest?

Whatever, either way; she was asking for a Quidditch match. Deidre realizes, for the second time in the span of three minutes, that she hasn't played Quidditch in years. Really weird.

She grins, eyes lighting up at the opportunity.

"Sure!"

gets asked to join the team

"Hey," the woman says, (I'm a woman now, too, she realizes, and blinks at the oddness of the term) "you're pretty good."

She could feel her face getting hot, but she hopes the woman, Lara, as she's introduced herself as, mistakes it for sunburn. "W-Well, uh, th-thanks, um, you too."

"Cool, thanks." Lara grins. "Wanna join our team?"

Now, since the first time she's ridden a broomstick, Deidre has never teetered or lost balance - not once, except for certain times when the weather was all screwy.

That day, the weather was perfectly fine, but she felt like she was about to fall off her broom, anyway.

She grips the handle of her broom tighter, just in case, and stares wide-eyed at the other woman. "Huh?"

Lara laughs again. "I said, d'you wanna join our team?"

"Er... what team?"

"Our Quidditch team, of course! Well. We're pretty new, so we haven't played that many professional games yet, so we're not that well-known. We're looking for some good players, actually. So." Lara crosses her arms and leans back easily on her broom. "Would ya like to join our team?"

"Uh, I-I-I... Um-"

"Is that a... yes?" Lara chuckles, amused.

Deidre feels her face flushing, but plows through. "Y-Yes!" she blurts out, and immediately tried to turtle in the collar of her shirt, but forces herself to sit up straight.

"I... I would like to join your team, yes."

Lara smiles wider, teeth showing. Dei smiles back, timid but determined.

And that's how she got recruited.

i've tweeted about this, but i'll post here too just in case

due to the sudden influx of ideas, courtesy of my previously-dormant-since-the-start-of-september rp muses, last night, i now i know what the heck to do with all these charries of mine

i'm gonna kill off like half of the old/pre-2014 ones (who i dub the Original Characters Set) but i haven't decided quite yet on my new/2014 ones (who i dub the Reboot Characters Set)

i've noted that the ones from the Original Characters Set (OCS) who i've decided to let live were the first two charries i've ever made on the site *wipes away tear of sentimentality*

the rest of the OCS, i'll probably kill off too but make 'em come back as ghosts, heh

(really broody, bitter bunch o' ghosts they'll be, pfft)

i haven't actually decided on yves and ro's fates yet, tho; i still need to have a talk with the rp'ers i have plots with for 'em, and then we shall see ~
