Neith, goddess of war and hunting, weaving and baby crocodiles? yeah.
inspired by this EscherGirls post. mostly from a comment containing a video, actually, which has been removed by the guy who made the comment (i'm sure he meant well), that (the video) said it's okay to sexify a goddess to stupid levels because she was depicted naked in ancient art. except nude =/= sexual imagery, so yeah, no.
some thoughts about this:
after reading the post over at EscherGirls, i thought that you could probably make a design of Neith that was more true to the source material, you know, less see-through tape or whatever it is she's wearing in SMITE.
looking things up, i found that Neith is usually(?) displayed in a dress, but i found some where she's wearing pants, i think, so i thought i'd be clever and make a dress/pants thing, drants if you will... i'm terrible. looking back at it, she was probably wearing a see-through dress, but i think this looks cool and i like to think i'm clever.
i gave her another layer of cloth underneath the dress/pants even though that is typically what men would wear (just that, not underneath anything), but i couldn't find anything information about any sort of underwear. i'm guessing they didn't wear any, but SMITE is rated teen, i think, so i feel like she'd have to have some cover there.
her chest is never really covered in ancient art, but in our modern times woman nipples are evil, so i covered them in this V shaped neck line thing, there's a real word for it, i just don't know what it is.
Neith is pretty much always depicted with a was sceptre, so i drew inspiration from that to make a bow for her. the bow has the forked bottom and the animal head (which i made a crocodile) like the sceptre. i liked the three strings her bow has in SMITE so i kept that even though it makes little sense and i did it wrong here, but it looks neat. i attached her symbol to the top of her bow, because that way it's above her head like she's depicted with, though, it's on a string, hopefully i'm not being horribly offensive by doing that, it just fit above her head and the bow's top was right there.
her gloves were honestly phoned in. i got caught up in trying to stay as true as possible to her classic appearance, that i completely forgot she was supposed to fire the bow. she doesn't have a quiver because i figured conjuring magic glowing arrows to shoot would be awesome.
her head looks huge because she's wearing a wig, then i remembered she's a goddess, she'd probably not have a wig and just have ideal hair to begin with, so that was stupid on my part.
wonky anatomy and perspective aside, i might have gone over board with trying to stay true to her ancient self, seeing as SMITE went with something that looks like futuristic cyber tape.
TL;DR I DID A THING.
