There doesn’t have to be an end goal or purpose when interacting with a deity.

People often seek out gods with an end goal of receiving assistance or guidance.

But you can also just interact with them for their company. You can hail them, give blot, or even just be in their presence for no other reason then you can.

Hail Njordr a Van,

Hail Njordr the prince of men,

Hail Niordr the giving god,

Hail Njordr who is lacking in malice,

Hail Njordr whose calming presence is always welcome at my altar.

First lightning storm in a long time here.

The ritual I do most often is offering the first serving of whatever I made to a guest. If we have a physical guest over they get the serving but if we don’t have anyone over it goes to a non-physical guest. Most of the time for me that is Njordr but I’ve also given it to land spirits and occasionally other gods as well.

Njordr was an incredibly popular god historically but I don’t see a lot of heathens talk about him now.

I think it’s probably because he isn’t described as a warrior like Thor, Odin, or even Freyja.

Anyone else have any theories?

The promised altar pictures! While it mostly centers Njordr, he isn’t the only one I approach/give offerings here. I think of it as my general place to go to connect with deities/spirits and I just happen to connect with Njordr more often so he gets the fun stuff.

One thing I’ve noticed recently is that I sometimes associate Njordr with lighthouses. I think it might be because the coast near where I live is filled with them but I also think there might be something to the concept of having something that guides you that reminds me of my experiences with him.
