Hello there, overly friendly kitty :3
Nagasaki 2025/02/02-07 Day 3
This was the day when the colt wave started earnestly. I woke to snowing, but it melted immediately. By the time I left for Dejima the sun was already out, but it was damn cold and windy. Dejima, as you probably know, is an artificial island where Dutch merchants stayed for business during the isolation. Nowadays, while you still cross a bridge, Dejima is not an island anymore, the other side is connected to land (albeit also acquired from the sea). Dejima is relatively small, but several building are set up to show the lifestyle of foreigners and the import/export business during that time.
During lunch the snow started up again with strong wind, and while the snow stopped, the wind didn't, so I was glad I had a hat in addition to earmuffs, although even the double-protection was not enough. Anyway, that afternoon I wanted to visit the Mt. Nabekanmuri Observatory, which is actually free, but you have to climb your way up. I started at a shrine up on a mountain, and as you can see many live on the mountains in Nagasaki, and people use those narrow stairs to get around. This is also the part of the town with a lot of Western style houses, because this is where the foreigners started to live after the Meiji restoration. This is also where I have met a friendly kitty who followed me for a while - the first one, because as it turned out Nagasaki is full of cats - hence the cats on many goodies by Ishimaru :3
The view from the observatory is worth the trouble, although the wind was crazy up there. Going down I visited the Glover Garden, which has several restored Western mansions. This is where is started to snow. By the time I was done here I was frozen to death, so I spend a long time in the final museum, because it was heated ^^; Close to the garden there is also the Oura cathedral and a shopping street, but I left these for later. I walked through the festival locations, but I was too tired and freezing, so after some warming up and hot soup at the hotel I went to take photos of the lanterns by the river I already posted. Btw, in the last pic you can see the local tram. The models looks like the old Eizan densha seen in Uchouten Kazoku :D
